Playing IFO and Video_ts (1 Viewer)

Hi there folks,

I realise this topic has been brought up in the past, but (unless I'm blind, hehe) I have not seen any concrete answers to the issue.

I've ripped my DVD collection to my HDD and currently the movies are stored as follows:
<movie_name>/VIDEO_TS/*.vob, *.ifo etc

My problem is that if I navigate to this folder via Mediaportal and select the folder, nothing happens. Well..."something" happens because I cannot navigate through the menu until I press the "stop" key on my remote (as if MP tries to play something....but doesn't).

I've used ffdshow, mpc, cyberlink 7,8,9 codecs and none work when trying to play a these folders (with vobs, ifo etc). When removing the IFO file from the file extensions config in MP and then try to select that DVD rip folder, it displays a blank screen (of the initial VOB) but then doesn't do anything....just a blank screen.

Now I've seen numerous people suggesting that you use an external player like KMPlayer, WinDVD etc....but is that 100% necessary? I have seen some mention of people being able to play IFO files back from internal to MP, but they never mention how they got it to work.

Please note that I do not want to ISO these folders. I don't want to DIVX them. I don't want to use an external player unless absolutely necessary.

Thus, can anybody please give me some advice as to why this might be happening, and what I need to do to enable MP to play VIDEO_TS/*.IFO type file setups internally. What codecs do I need, how do I need to configure MP, etc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

CoreAVC (for H.264)

did you use ccleaner.exe its very important it removes your old codecs
have you update windows update to the latest?
dvd setup in configuration:
dvd video decoder mpc
dvd audio decoder mpc

i am only using cccp and Real Alternative

with this settings it should be good

Thanks for the response. As for my setup, its actually a 100% clean install, so there shouldn't be any old codecs...right? Basically, I did this:

Installed Vista (with SP1)
Installed/updated things like WMP11, .NET 3.5 etc
Installed CCCP (latest I could get on 15/03/2009)
Installed CoreAVC (ditto)
Installed MediaPortal 1.0.2.0
Installed StreamedMP (ditto)

Setup ffdshow to do "all supported" for raw types and disabled x.264 since I use coreAVC.

Indexed all my movies via moving pictures.

I've tried the exact config you have (MPC as the video decoder for both video and DVD). Also tried ffdshow - no luck

I can play everything I throw at it. APART from the whole VIDEO_TS/*.IFO thing....it just doesn't work.... Mediaportal just sits there in the menu...not doing anything. I do have to click "stop" in order to navigate the menu again, so something must be happening when I select the movie...but there's no screen flashing, no sound, no nothing.....

I know some might think "why don't you just ISO the folders???" Well I'll give it a go anyway.....but still.....surely there must be a solution to this problem???

Any guesses.....pretty please

hm strange.. maybe vista is the problem i have no experience with that or the coreavc
place the files in the VIDEO_TS folder because it gives problems when you do not do that with some movies
can you give your ffdshow settings and your computer setup so whe can compare the settings?
