Get a small switch and link your pc, nas and router to the switch, therefore access to the NAS will bypass router.

good proposal - this is the way in all and every case
the router should just be one more member of the switch centered LAN

Efros: The crossover cable I used was the original cable I used, I just cut off the connecters and re wired it to be a crossover cable. So since this produced different results I know it is not the cable.

wortelsoft: I can't adjust the port speed of router or my NAS but I did try 100 FD, 100HD and Auto on my HTPC and this did not make a difference.

Any more ideas??

As suggested above a switch would be your best option allows direct access to your NAS without going through the router.
