I've got the same problem. Renaming the VOBs to MPG seems to work as a hack, but it is definitely not an ideal solution. If MP won't play it back, it would be nice if you could specify which extensions are played by the internal player vs. which would launch an external player.

I tried several times playing the VOB file from My Videos and My TV Series and both show a black screen.

The stange thing is all external media players like Nero and WMP dont have problems.

I have the same problem.

I'm using AnyDVD, so copy protection is NOT the problem. MP plays Divx no problem. I already tried every posible codec configuration.

Can any of the Masters of MediaPortal PLEASE give us a definitive answer to resolve this issue?

THANKS.

Has anyone got .vob or .iso extensions to work yet? I have mine showing up in MP but when I click on them nothing happens. When using PowerDVD they play just fine with all the menus etc. When in MP and click another movie (say a .avi) PowerDVD loads up and plays just fine.
Can't figure out why the .vob / .ifo will not work???? Please help!!!!

Do you have them listed as movie extentions?

Yeah I have them listed in the extensions section, MP also sees and recognizes the files/folders - just won't play them :(
They .ifo file works a treat outside of MP using PowerDVD and this also runs as an external player when using MP playing other file extensions i.e .avi (click on the movie in MP and will load up PowerDVD etc)
Really want to get this to work as I'm so close to having it all sorted !!
Any one able to help?

Is there a reason you don't want to play these files inside MP and just use the powerdvd codecs? I have copies of our dvd's in folders (movie name) - Ifo & vob's (in "video_ts" folder) + the empty "audio_ts" folder. MP plays them fine. Try this go into config under movies select movie player (this is for straight video files mpg, etc).

mpeg Choose Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
h.264 - cyberlink
Audio - cyberlink

If your like me you have to go to DVD section - mine are dvd's ripped to folders as I said above. Goto dvd codecs

DVD Navigator Cyberlink dvd navigator

dvd video decoder Cyberlink Video/SP decoder
dvd audio decoder Cyberlink Audio Decoder.

If you have multiple versions of powerdvd make sure the navigator and codecs match the same versions. If it works you can go back and experiment.

I would love to be able to just use the powerDVD codecs and use the player within MP - but I still can't get the thing working.
I have just uninstalled everything (including MP) and re-installed it all, left it in its basic settings and it will not play .ifo / .vob files - I'm clearly doing something very wrong here.
Ripped the DVD (Got 'Video_TS' and 'Audio_TS') - these work great outside of MP.
In MP config, set the folder destination to my movies. Ripped DVD = "Test"/'Video_TS' & Audio_TS' then all the .ifo, .vob and .bup files in the 'Video_TS' folder (so TEST/VIDEO_TS/1.ifo). All MP does is treat them as folders and lets you view all the files - click on them and nothing happens.
I can get regular .avi movies etc to play but this is not much help as I want to begin ripping my DVD's into .ifo files and just play them like that.
Thanks for trying to help.

Did you scan them into the database? You have list the folder under movie folders, then scan the folder. It will try to identify the movies for you. Once you add the movie into the database it should play. Are you just using the share view and browsing files?

Hi, thanks for trying to help:)
I have just scanned them in - but does not recognize them on the IMDB database (I have only labeled it as test for now) - My .avi file played before I scanned it so don't think that is the problem.
It's got to be the way I have it configured to play .ifo files -
Do you play .ifo ripped DVD files/folders by chance?
Maybe it is some codecs or something I am missing???
