Similar to opening a folder, MP opened the playlist, showed all entries and started playing the first one.Sorry if this has been asked before but I really couldn't find the right info through forum search. Neither did I find the old .pls configuration thread I remember reading a long time ago.Edit: I use these playlists in My Music.
