    Confused on Upnp Browser?

    Kroko,

I am new to all of this and trying to figure out the best front end form my content. After initially reading your extension description, I thought I would now be able to add content from a UPNP svr to Media Portal. Is this the purpose of your program?

XBMC allows me to do this very easily, but MP does not, or I don't have the knowledge of know how to do this. Very plausible.

I ultimately would like to add Playon UPNP Svr onto MP as a video option. I can add all content off my nas, but I belive I am doing this via SMB and not UPNP. My NAS does either, and this is the way I am able to post this content on my PS3, XBOX360, and Popcorn Hour.

Finally, I don't know how to use your program. I have loaded it via the MP installer, and I see it as an option in the extensions. When I click on it, it only asks me if I want to reinstall it or uninstall it. I was expecting to be able to choose from a list of UPNP servers at that point.

I am sorry if this is very basic, but your help would be great appreciated.

Well, I just realized that I needed to rest MP to get this to populate in Plugins. I also just realized that this is literally a UPNP browser, and not an actual client allowing me to play my UPNP Sver content.

Cool browser except it pauses a bit before it actually pulls up the list.

If I am off on this one, then please let me know, but it seems there isn't a way to play UPNP svr content within MP.

Another tester is here Kroko! I'll try what you have right now tonight! Would be awesome!
btw: +1 for having MP as renderer. I already have a NAS drive with UPnP running, and would like to use my windows mobile as controlpoint to tell MP to play a certain song from my NAS drive. Is that will work in the future, you're my man!

    regards

    Hi Kroko,

first of all many thanks for this nice feature. But,... (as usual *g)

... is there a way to get the UPNP Browser connected to the MediaTomb UPNP Server? Or is the client only working with your UPNP Server?
Your browser can identify the server but after entering it shows me a blank screen only :(

I've tried also the XBMC Media Center to stream directly from MediaTomb with success.

    Cheers

Sorry I took me some time to reply....

The browser is a UPNP control point which can play also files from a UPNP server locally. Best it works together with the VLC plugin and assinged http protocol.

There are a lot of UPNP servers out there. They all a bit different, also sometime the UPNP renderer (hardware) are sligthly different from the server. Makes it sometimes not possible to play the files.

The upnp browser should almost play all files from a upnp serer. It does it not in the "common" way but with vlc there is a good chance it works. In the setup you can choose a renderer if you want. For example if you running xmbc on an other machine this could be used to play the files instead play them locally inside the mp.

My upnp server is fast growing right now. I already but a plugin system allow to browse pictures from flickr, play videos streams from *******, browse some podcast, and use the mp tv server to play webstreams. Of couse add shared folders for video, music and pictures too.

It is not offical yet. I got the first results from the testers. Right now I'm just fixing some bugs and mainly work on the music part. As soon I get this is working fine I will do a release.

I hope that answer some questions.

    Regards

    Hi Kroko,

I´m very exited about UPNP support for MP, that´s the missing piece I´m looking for ;-))

Like smileyrti I´m also using Mediatomb as a UPNP server. UPNP browser is able to recognice this upnp server but after selecting this server no subdirectory is available. Please let me know if I can support you with some testing...

I´ve installed MediaTomb on a NSLU2 NAS server with default settings. What environment are you using?

The installation itself is also is working correctly with other UPNP devices but with the UPNP browser I´m only able to see the server name but not able to see any files / directories.

    :D Kroko,
finally got around to trying this out. It seems to have a little trouble with some directories containing other than known media files, but it loads *lots* faster than Kaoh's mpTino UPNP plugin. If I could only find a way to keep my server from going to sleep while I am listening to a stream, it would be just about perfect!
