Ok, I'm a big fan of MPBlue but as things are stalling there I'm trying this as well. I got it to connect, some confusion on the server port number (It changed the first time but not later) but I can read the music library (which is 13,000 songs) and I am using up all my available pda memory (I got about 12mb left), which is a lot more than mpblue or media control uses. Media control works directly with WMP, in the background.

But, I cannot get songs to play, not sure if I have something wrong or if it's a bug. I am using 0.2.0.0, I thought I had my library setup to use unknown songs in same folder as album but that didn't seem to stick (each unknown album is treated as a separate album), and I've also got my songs indexed to artist, which makes for faster loading in MPBlue.

So, that is where I stand. Right now the issues with MPBlue are errors with unknown albums if set for treat folders as album, and the now playing info seems to have stopped functioning. what I would really hope is that the three projects (this, external controls, and MPBlue) would band together for a total project, one that works with pda's or windows, and one that could send remote commands or keybaord shortcuts much like girder.

I'm still working on this but its slowed down a lot due to other projects. Any problems with it currently I hope to make irrelevant soon as I'm working on replacing the combination of UDP & HTTP servers with a single TCP server. This will allow for one server rather than two, and also will allow this to work when connected via activesync.

The pocketpc client does need work and I plan to rewrite it to draw the interface through code rather than using controls, as this is my first use of the compact framework and I have to say it seems somewhat poor in terms of performance when a fair amount of controls are used on a form.

I have also been working on a windows client which will share a lot of code with the pocketpc client by using a common class library that handles the connection to the server and the commands to send.

Burty89,

I'm the developer of MPBlue..

I can understand that you really want to write something yourself, but have you ever tried MPBlue?

especially the latest release is really quite responsive... It can draw several controls (15-20) in just a matter of milliseconds..

you will also see that using webservices (or remoting) is (after it has all loaded) not as bulky as you think.. MPBlue is also using UDP for the now playing information..

Try it, if you like it, maybe we can work together?

BTW, where did you read that it was not working? most posts about MPBlue are quite positive, obviously it is not finished, so bugreports are just normal..

regards,
MrSensitive

I second MrSensitive, version 0.0.5 of MPBlue has most everything on the music controls working, couple minor bugs but the new version is the best remote app to date. It's nice to see more and more development, hopefully once all things are resolved you guys will come up with either some variants (for different devices) or an integrated ultimate program.

Has this project been released as opensource? If so, then other developers can pick-it-up and add features fix bugs.
