I've kicked around the idea of using the mono project, and maybe somewine, to make mediaportal run under linux. One of my pet peves with mediaportal is the player, which has to rely on the filesystem for .iso support.(daemon tools)...
a real player(video lan client/mplayer/xine) just works with .iso's
take the good(interface), strip the bad(player/windows integration),
and you might even be able to gain performance increases with all the opensource software. It might be possible to compile things you need,
and end up with a really slick custom OS.
that is the dream anyway, If I get my house built, and get some of my spare time back, I plan on tackling this project.
