Synopsis::
When my display is on large font when starting up MP and playing video or TV for the first time in full screen, I only get a blank screen with sound. When the video or TV is displayed in a window within MP, the picture is displayed correctly. When starting MP from display in normal font, I don’t get this blank screen problem.

After trying Phrak’s solution B (https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showpost.php?p=71755&postcount=29 ) I compared the working MediaPortal.xml and the non-working one and came to the conclusion that in my case it was setting “exclusivemode” to “no” that fixed my problem.

Solution: Start MediaPortal Setup.
Under “General” uncheck “Using Exclusive DirectX mode – avoids tearing”.
Click “OK”

So that brings us back to the suggestion that the problem is in fact with DirectX and not MediaPortal.

If you have the “Blank screen” problem, please try this solution and let us know if it works for you.

I have had problems for a long time with this. I thought it was copy protection or something preventing me from playing store-bought DVDs.
My workaround was to copy them onto blank media with copy protection removed. I occasionally still got problems, but they were pretty rare.
I tried the suggestion and turned off the exclusive DirectX mode and the DVDs I've tried work fine.
The problem I had was only on DVDs, not while watching TV, so other suggestions I've seen about resetting the font size to normal din't do anything.
