I'm not sure wether I should post this here or in a different mp-forum but I hope a mod or admin can move it if it should not have been posted in this forum.

I've had tearing on MP like many others have and also tried all kinds of things suggested by others such as setting it to exclusive mode and turning on vsync in nvidia drivers etc.

None of it worked, HOWEVER, I found similarities in many posts I found of people that have tearing problems. They all were using dual monitors (or a tv as a dual monitor).

I've changed my settings to have my plasma screen as the primary monitor and did not extend the desktop onto my MP's pc monitor. So I'm solely running just the plasma as my monitor and voila.. tearing is gone.

I turned my desktop's monitor back on by either cloning it or extending the desktop to it and voila.. tearing is back.

I recommend more people with tearing problems to try this and see if that is actually the cause of it.

Hope it helps!
cheers

Thanks Ronner for the suggestion, but unfortunately is not my case, i've two screens, but when i'm using MediaPortal i set the TV screen as primary (and only) display. I've tearing.. i've testing lately with a program called ReClock and it seems to reduce a bit the tearing effect, but it's still noticeable when there is horizontal camera pannings...

Patricon, did you also try both vsync AND making your tv the primary and only display? That seemed to work for me.

(on a sidenote I've not tried reClock since I don't believe adjusting the refreshrate of a monitor to the fps in a movie will help much. It's the same with gaming. If you have 100fps and you put your refreshrate on 100 as well, you will get tearing (although be it in one place))

I have the same issue as you... to an extent, MP running on primary results in no tearing. MP running on secondary monitor results in tearing.

Hi guys, the rules for directx are different on secondary monitors. You can try the new EVR option in the config if you have .net 3.0 installed. It is a work in progress, and you will lose dxva acceleration, but supposedly its pretty good, and you won't have tearing. Also, if you're running English XP, you can download a directx patch that improves the vmr9. I posted a sticky in one of the forums with a link. Good luck.

Isn't the EVR option for 'Vista Only'? And where does it state that .net 3.0 is needed?

Also, does this patch somehow enable DirectX on the secondary display? Surely that's all we need?
