I know that's silly. That's why I looked into using hibernation rather than sleep mode. Seems to work. I have quite a few new insights on this. I'm still testing to confirm all and will then write a summary.
There is one thing that is not clear to me and that is how the heartbeat from client to server works. I think the server went into standby once even though a client was active. Does a client send a heartbeat to the server whenever MP is running, or only when using TV or only when 'send WOL ...' is selected, or ...? How often is the heartbeat send, what is the timeout for the server on the heartbeat?

i dont like hibernation cause in my case it takes quite longer to come to live ! howerver in your case i can understand.
In mp configuration>plugins>powerscheduler has to be enabled and there you can setup when mp should go into standby. Note that there is an option that if mp client is on home screen then it can go to sleep.
It should keep tv server even if not watching tv, that is what in my case. I would check mp client logs and tv server logs if it is the case.
and how about keeping it awake for computers in the network NOT using mp??? i know there is a bandwidth option but it must be hard to tell if someone has an open document (example word document) from the server and working on it. im sure bandwidth limit is not reached.
