Now I have a fully functioning tv server (resolved hauppauge driver issue) I need to work on h264 namely "BBC HD".

My setup

Dedicated TV server
Core duo E2180, 2GB RAM, Hauppauge 500pvr, Hauppauge wintv DVB-S/S2
TVEngine 1.0 RC1

HTPC
pendium D 2.6Ghz, 1GB RAM, PowerColour (ATI) HD 3650, MediaPortal 1.0 RC1

No SVNs on either PC.

My problem is when I play the "BBC HD" channel my system is obviously not using the hardware decoding properties of the hd 2650 card because my CPU on the client is pegged at 100% and the video is slow and out of sync with the audio.

I've bought the CoreAvc codec but had no improvement, I've tried the ATICodec but no better.... I've also took a look at goose's ffdshow guide but no luck. The network shows a healthy 17Mbit/s when playing so I can rule that out too.... also the tv server cpu is at around 5% when playing BBC HD on my client.

So, anyone have any ideas?

Regards,

Jon

CoreAVC has no GPU assist for HD but is excellent when you have the CPU power (Awesome on my dual AMD 285)

    Basic ATI codec doesn't either.

I beleive only the PowerDVD codec accesses the GPU HD . You need to instal the PowerDVD from the instal DVD you may have had with your card and then the codecs are avaialble for MP to access.

There may be others but haven't tried, maybe some other forum users can post the best codec they use for GPU HD assist.

Many thanks to both of you. I'm astounded that the ATICodec does not support using their own GPU??? thats something I'd never considered. Ok I've got some leads to go with, thanks.

Added the below later after no luck.................

I'm having no luck with this. None of the codecs seem to use the GPU to decode. I even downloaded a trial of cyberlink's h264 for ATI and that made no difference?!?!?

I bought this damn graphics card because on the ATI web site it says it decodes h264.... yet there is no software to use it, not even ATI's own codec?!?!?! WTF? what a rip off.

there's registry hacks available on the avs forum, but these are all for HD2xxx series cards to enable this, and other things.

Just cannot find any for the 3xxx series, might be worthwhile posting over there just to see if anyone else has got this working fully.

    Cheers

graphedit showed some interesting results. It kept crashing with a runtime error when I connected remotly to the MP graph, however one time it did connect and showed mp was using the coreavc codec even though I had it set to use the powerdvd codec.......

To be honest the current install on my htpc client has been through the mill a bit. I now know roughly what I need for the ideal setup so I'm starting with a clean install.

Nope, just cant get h264 to decode via the graphics card. I have the AGP version and I've read there are real issues with getting it to work...... talk about false advertising.
