I'm trying to use the PowerDVD codecs for audio but somehow they won't get picked up.
I would like to use them nice stereo to 5.1 upmix feature that I configure as follow through that Output mode option in PowerDVD:

However for some reason it keeps picking up LAV instead of powerDVD:

Also configuring PowerDVD codecs through MP configure is a bit messed up. Some of the changes are not persisted.

Also somehow LAV upmix ain't working for me.

AFAIK, LAV Audio Decoder only does down-mixing (it does not do up-mixing).

My experience is that the Cyberlink audio decoder filters won't work properly (or at all) in third-party apps - I think it's partly due to Dolby licensing restrictions.

Weird, but at least it should pick up the PowerDVD audio codec right?

how should it pick PDVD codec if the codec refuses the connections?
Ho I see. So you saying it tried to use it but failed and thus falls back to LAV. That would make sense I guess. I wish there was a way to get it to work. The PowerDVD video codec works really well.

as Owlsroost said, it has the same restrictions as MS DTV/DVD audio decoder - it just won't work for AC3, and you cannot force it to get it working :)

I'm able to use the Cyberlink audio decoder... though it's a much older [OEM Twinhan] version (v6, 2004) from Twihan's DigitalTV software. I think it only supports downmixing, but I could easily be wrong. AC3/DD definitely works. Normally I just use AC3Filter though.

I had a try using a couple of audio codecs from Total Media Theater 5, same result as with AC3 but this time it defaulted to MS codecs rather than LAV for some reason.
How does MP determines the codecs it should default to? Can I specify an order of preference for fallback codecs?
