hi,

i use or better wanna use PowerDVD Ultra as player, because of
the bluray and HD-DVD support. I also have some HD .ts files with
h264 and mpeg codec. I set up a database for myfilms and wanna
start, which are on harddrives, directly from myfilms plugin.

The starting of PowerDVD works fine, also HD-DVDs work like they
should, but the normal .ts files make trouble.

Both mpeg2 and h264 .ts files start in PowerDVD, but while the
mpeg2 files only start with audio the h264 files start with a extreme
bitrate of 500 or 700 Mbit / s and because of that load, load and load ...

The strange thing is every time i start one of the .ts files i get the
online registration form, even if i filled it out certain times ...

Does somebody have a solution or a tip where to search the problem ?

would be great, thanks ...

O.K. i tested the same files in the same MediaPortal and PowerDVD version
on my working PC. There the h264 and mpeg2 HD TS-files work fine.

So what can it be :

1. operatings system HTPC has VISTA Home Premium 64bit
working PC has VISTA Ultimate 32bit

2. graphiccard HTPC NVIDIA 8600 GTS ( PCI-E )
working PC ATI x1550 ( AGP )

3. DirectX 10 ( HTPC is DirectX 10 and working PC is DirectX 9 )

4. something else ...

Ohh, i forgot all files play fine directly in PowerDVD ...

Si it's a global MP problem. Post a question on the official part of MP to find a solution.

Gizzmo, how did you get My Films to play dvds in an external player? I tried setting up the external player under MP's DVD settings, and it will use the external player for "Play DVD" but still the internal player for My Films.

hi sxjxcx,

you have to setup the external player for movies not for DVD. The
DVD setup means a real DVD in the drive or as a iso image ...

I don't use myfilms for DVDs because i don't watch DVDs :D

I only watch Bluray, HD-DVDs and ts or mkv files from the harddrive.

Than i setup for DVD the external player and for movies ( ts, mpeg,
mkv etc. ) the internal player. You can also handle the DVD, Bluray
and HD-DVD discs by setting up the automatic start of the certain
fileformat. I use iso images of Bluray and HD-DVD for mounting
them so they get played automatically when mounted = the same
like inserting a Disc. For the discs i only have to insert them ...

For other filerormats you have to setup the usage under movies ...

Thanks for the reply Gizzmo. I use all ISO files with My Films. I tried out what you mentioned here and it will open a .mpg or .avi in the external "Movies" player, but still opens dvds (ISOs) in the internal DVD player - even with the external "DVD" player set.

is the .iso extension combined with the external player you wanna use ( in windows ! ) ?

Did you setup the automatically startup of .iso and / or DVDs to the external player ?

I am using VISTA so i am not sure about where and how in XP ...

If you setup DVD as automatically played with for example PowerDVD, than if you
start an iso it gets mounted and is like a new DVD in the DVD-drive. So the automatically
startup comes up.

Oh, did you setup daemontools in the MP setup ? in attachement you get a jpg of the
setup part within MP setup ...

Whan you try to start your iso from myfilms, do the iso get mounted to the virtualdrive ?
if not, than there is a problem with mounting the images. Than you can have a look on
the MP settings mentioned before. I am not sure but i think maybe i have another
tool for the automounting ... i have to look after it ...

Thanks for the advice Gizzmo, it sparked an idea and I tried a few things and finally got it to work. In my settings I had:

1. Daemon Tools turned on
2. External DVD Player checked on and set to WinDVD

The ISO would mount, but the it would always play in the MP internal player. I also tried setting the External Movie Player in MP, but still opened in internal player. To make it work I had to:

1. Turn on Daemon Tools in settings
2. Set External DVD Player in settings to WinDVD (can be checked on or off, doesn't matter - bug?)
3. Set External Movie Player in settings to VLC (or any program), checked on

So BOTH External DVD & Movie player have to be set, even though I don't want to use an external Movie player. This must be a bug, but at least I got it working now - the weird thing is My Films doesn't even listen to whether External DVD Player is checked on or off, just whether it has a path set. This only applies to My Films, Using "Play DVD" follows the standard External DVD Player settings and I don't have to use this work-around.
