PowerScheduler resumes fine, but not manually using the remote (1 Viewer)

- Using latest Release Candidate of Media Portal

Here is an odd one. PowerScheduler now works PERFECTLY as expected. Machine wakes up after standby to record and sleeps afterwards. HOWEVER, if the machine is asleep via PowerScheduler and I manually wake it with the remote I get the black screen and MP crashes (Not responding).

How is waking up from stanby via PowerScheduler and waking up via the remote different?

I tried using the MCE Standby Tool (MST) which closes and opens media portal (excellent), but of course when PowerScheduler switches into standby, MediaPortal (thus PowerScheduler) shuts down so it never wakes up to record!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

It's the timing of the resume, powerscheduler does it in a ordered way, xp is just loading in any order, so MP may load just as the drivers are reinitialising for your TVcard which fails, hence black screen.

MCE Standby Tool, adjust settings under MP tab, if not using TVE3 might be worth starting at the never shut MP down option, the main use for MST is to properly configure your pc for standby\hibernate, some options are of use with TVE3 only, MP Tab for instance with its ability to shutdown and restart MP, allows TVServer to startup prior to MP restarting.

    Thanks Ray.

A bit more information which may help. It turns out that MediaPortal DOES come back from the black screen after approx 3-6 mins (random).

A quick peek in the debug log shows this:

-- note -- This event is the last thing that is written before it goes into standby

    2007-11-09 14:45:05.109375 [Info.][MPMain]: PowerScheduler.WndProc: OnSuspend->StopTimer

-- note -- Machine is resumed and then black screen... 6 minutes(!) later MP loads, all is ok and the below happens

    2007-11-09 14:51:14.203125 [Info.][MPMain]: Main: WM_POWERBROADCAST: 18
2007-11-09 14:51:14.203125 [Info.][MPMain]: Main: Windows has resumed from standby or hibernate mode to handle a requested event
    etc
    etc

So basically there is NO attempt at ANY logging until 6 mins after the black screen dissapears. I have tried MST with no shutdown and it still does the same thing. Also, I have tried switching off 'Live TV' so no cards initialise. No joy.

So at least I nearly have a working system!!! Trouble is, how do I tell my wife to wait 6 minutes after resuming before she can watch Eastenders ;-)

Just as a workaround, could you setup Hibernation instead of standby (Screensaver\Power\Hibernation enable), and change MST and Powerscheduler to Hibernate, this has been known to overcome some of these problems.

Might solve the problem with Eastenders as well. ;)

You could also try to use an unsupported / hidden MP feature. It allows MP to restart itself after the PC/HTPC has been resumed from standby / hibernate.

    In Mediaportal.xml add following:

yes
under the

Hi Ray, Hibernate gives the same problem unfortunately.

Hi tourettes. I tried adding the:

yes

.. but it seemed to do nothing at all.

I have tried for nearly a week now to get things working and it's been a struggle to get this far, so I think it's now time to try a Linux solution which is unfortunate as the MediaPortal looks good.

    Hi,
You need to use latest SVN to use tourettes solution.

You should also give system specs & attach logs when posting problems like this, easier to check whats happening.
