What a shame this project seems to have fizzled out. I'd love to have MP running on linux, and in fact it's the only reason I'm not using Linux on my HTPC now. Yes, I know that there are linux HTPC programs out there, but none of them holds a light to MP AFAIAC.

Maybe one day we can reach a state where compilation of MP on Mono is possible. Then openGL, then Linux and beyond.

    One can dream. :(

    i am wondering...

if mp is working great as stability has been reached and functionality is outstanding.

what would make it better htpc software by being run in linux????
in my very personal opinion, there is just one pro.
and this is that linux is "free".

but for someone who has literally never touched linux before, getting just the basic playback of "all" common media to go, and tv-cards to work on linux is like "Mission Impossible".

if MediaPortal is targeted for geeks, then linux based HTPC's are targeted for "uber-nasa-rocket-scientists".

at least this is what i encountered when trying to get applications like MythTV to work.

i-loop thats exactly what i had in mind when i was writting my post.

apart for being free, i cant find any reason for wanting mp to run in linux so much.

Idealism, I guess. I love Linux and use it daily. Before I discovered MP I got myth server/client fully running. It felt good because it was totally free and open source. Then I discovered MP and I just didn't hate my self enough to continue using myth. Why punish your self, it's just computers, it's just technology, it's not that important, is it?

    All IMHO of course :)

    too bad it stopped.
the MP computer is the only windows computer in the house, and the only to crash a 1-2 times a week.
now and then, the thing crashes some driver and ends up making annoying noise thru the speakers while video freezes (most likely to crash when watching (TV).
MP is the only TV/media stuff in the house, there's no old fashion sat tuner or disc player, - so I'd like to to run on a more stable and safe OS than windows.

I'd check the hardware/drivers that cause the crash.

I did not have any of my MP HTPC's nor the Server crash or freeze since I upgraded all of them to Windows7 when it released. :D

Yes, upgraded Nvidia drivers many times, same goes for Realtek (audio) - using latest Digital Evereywhere (DVB-S) drivers,
The fact that I run windows XP may be contributing, but I refuse to pay microsoft for a crappy os that is ridiculously bloated and huge.
On the other hand, I purchase other computers with windows 7 that I don't use, but I guess I cant use that license on another motherboard due to microsoft's "bend-over" policy.

I have now replaced all the good old fire and floppydtv's with Digitaldevices cards because the digital everywere products did not work so well with W7 dues to the requirement of the legacy firewire driver. Also one of the firedtv's *burned* to death. :(

A opinion I do not share when it comes to W7. But no real point to argue about this. From personal experience I can tell that W7 is one hell of a lot better than winxp in every regard (stability, networkspeed/filetransfer, videoimagequality)

If you have a installation DVD and a serial, you can install it on any PC.
As far as I remember it's mainly those PC/notebooks without an install dvd that are "hoocked" to the hardware. At least in WinXP days this was the case. Can't say for sure for W7.

    .

I am using 2x DVB-S2 and they work fine, but yes, I did notice the W7 problem too, and also, W7 did not handle my RF-remote very well at all, (Firefly) - so that's the result of the test I did a year ago or so.

Not sure what is considered a good S2 tuner with *good* drivers these days.

We all need Mediaportal on linux !! What about past work on it? Is there a change log? It can be useful for future developer.
