    The important points are:
    1. have both the new location and the old location set in moving pictures prior to moving files
    2. Close MePo/Moving Pictures prior to moving the files.

Thanks for clearing that up, seems my problem is that the old location no longer exists as it was on the same server hardware but previous install, so the old files are no longer there and adding new locations automatically triggers an import. I'll just have to go through the import process again and not change the location again!

MovPic checks existing locations first, so if the old import location does not contain the movies anymore, MovPic goes crazy in deleting it. If that old import path however would have been 'offline', meaning you would have not created the UNC share, or used a different server name, then MovPic would have assumed you like disconnected an external drive and will not delete (sometimes it still does due to a bug that has recently been fixed).

There is even a forced manual option on the import path to tell it that this path is about to change or has changed. Try that. If it is still an offline drive, then technically MovPic finding the movies on a new location with the same hash (it calculates a checksum based on file itself) it will update path reference if that offline import path is marked as such.

Finally you can manually fix it with SQL queries by updating the path, I've helped somebody do that in another post (search for Z:\)
