Hello,

Since I'm using MediaPortal for a long time to watch divx and listen to mp3 i wanted to start watching TV on my HTPC.

The goal was to have a cheap PVR with recording option and time shifting! :D

I bought on the internet cheap used PCI analog TV card V-Stream Conexant CX23883-19.
The card works good with DScaler program but there is no way I can start it working on my mediaPortal :(
I have 1.1.0 MP and all windows Xp SP3 Updates, the newest drivers for TV card but TV server doesnt want to work wit the card.
MediaPortal TV server recognises card as "Analog Conexant 2388x Tuner".
When i press "Scan for Tv chanells" button program says "no signal' on all chanells!!
When I start DScaler everything is fine.

Please help me to find out if it's possible to work it out?

I don't know what log to post so I could help figure out the problem.

Thanks in advance!

    Excellent, thank you! :D

I can see the problem in your log. I'm not exactly sure if I can fix it, however I'm willing to at least try...
I'm going to need some more information from you. Please follow these instructions:

    1. Download and install GraphStudio from here.
    2. Close MediaPortal if it is open.
    3. Open DScaler and tune to any channel with the card.
    4. Open GraphStudio.
    5. Click "file"->"connect to remote graph...".
    6. There should be one entry in the list that pops up. Select it and click "connect".
    7. Make a screenshot of the graph (press [ctrl] + [F12], then paste into Paint, Photoshop or similar).
    8. Click "file"->"disconnect from remote graph".
    9. Post the screenshot from step 7 here.

If you don't understand the instructions or have any trouble then just ask for more help and I will try to give more specific instructions.

    :)

That is strange. I have DScaler 4.1.15 here and GraphStudio finds the graph perfectly when I watch analog channels...
Did you make sure you were watching a channel when you tried to connect to the graph?
What version of DScaler is it?
Do you have any other programmes that the tuner can work in?

    I agree, this is strange.
I have the same Dscaller 4.1.15. Yes, the program was tuned with the station during clicking "refresh" button and making screenshot, but the screenshot doesn, show it.

I'll have to try the program that was delivered with the card and I'll post the results soon.

    Hi again

The TV picture doesn't show because DScaler uses the overlay mixer rather than the video mixing renderer (VMR) or enhanced video renderer (EVR) like MediaPortal. I just wanted to double check because I couldn't tell from the screenshot...
We don't necessarily need the screenshot - it would just be *much* easier. My goal was to try and see how the other programs are able to connect the tuner components to make the tuner work. MediaPortal allows timeshifting, which is more complicated than DScaler. That might be the difference that is preventing the tuner from working in MediaPortal...

I've attached a screenshot of the DScaler "graph" for my tuner. This is what I was hoping to see from your screenshot. Your tuner has components that connect in a similar way...

First comes the tuner. The video from the tuner is connected directly to the crossbar ("Xbar"). The audio passes through the TV audio "filter" before it can connect to the crossbar. Next comes the orange capture filter. This is where the problem is for your card - for some reason MediaPortal can't connect the crossbar to the capture filter.

I don't know if any of that makes sense to you. If you want to get your tuner to work then we are going to have to try and make a "graph" like the one in the screenshot for your tuner. You can build a graph manually with GraphStudio. Let's try something simple first - let's just try to find and add the correct filters to the graph. Please follow these instructions:

    1. Open GraphStudio.
    2. Click graph->insert filter.
    3. In the top corner, select "WDM streaming TV tuner devices".
    4. In the next box make sure that "all filters" is selected.
    5. Double click on each item in the list to add them all to the graph.
    6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 for "WDM streaming TV audio devices", "WDM streaming crossbar devices" and "WDM streaming capture devices".
    7. Close the popup window.
    8. Take a screenshot showing all the filters. It is easiest to do this using [ctrl]+[f12] or click graph->make graph screenshot.
    9. Post the screenshot here.

I am aware that the comments and instructions I've given you above are quite technical. I'm sorry about this. Making analog tuners work can be quite complicated :( . Please feel free to ask me to explain my instructions better if they don't make sense.

    Hi again mareks99

I have learned a lot about support for analog tuners since I last spoke to you. Could I ask: does your tuner require a cable to be connected to the sound card?
