Hi,

Just wanted to ask if anyone else has the same problem as me. I have got a PowerColor ATI Radeon 9250, and have a problem that after an hour of watching videos or TV the graphics card turns off. The programs and mediaportal are still running fine.

I've installed the latest drivers and other stuff but the problem still continues. The prblem only happens when using the TV out.

If any ones knows of any solutions or could maybe recommend an alternative card, that would be great. Only thing is i've got a really small case so the card can't be too big.

Thanks

Jay

Well, the R9250 isn't a real DX9 card, which you should have when using MP. Maybe you heard that 9250 is 9200 with DX9, but this is not the case, I'm afraid (I thought so too, not long ago).

    There are several cheap DX9 cards, like FX5200, 6200TC and the R X300, 9600 or 9550 - series.

    Hi,

the card not being a DX9 card really should be no problem. I am using my 8500 without problems with MP.

My vote is with wortelsoft on this one.
Really does sound like heat, or at a push power problem.
Whats the airflow like over the heatsink (Iknow your are going to say not great, but got to ask).

It could be heat, the pic below is of the card it's the red one. There's very little airflow but i've installed two small fans to help.

However when the TV turns off i've felt the heatskin and it doesn't seem too hot or anything.

Does any one have any sugguestion of ways to improve the cooling or how to measure the temp of the card?

The tvout can be a separate chip wich is not covered by a heatsink. You could look up the chip number with a search engine to see which chip it is. If you find it then you can stick a heatsink on it with adhesive cooling paste.

But to determine if you have a heat problem you could remove the cover of your case to see if that solves the problem when watching through tv out.

    Hi,

I don't think it's a heat problem as taken out TV card so the Graphics cards got some more space, plus put two fans over the card. But only a few mins of watching some recorded TV the card stopped worked even though the heatskin was stone cold.

Looked on the graphics card and the TV out is under the heatskin.

Going to test another graphics card to see if that fixes the problem.

P.S. Media Portal is amazing the best program that's out there.
