Not sure if this is the best place for this but I figure someone here must be doing this.

I'm using DVDshrink to reauthor my DVD rips into individual episodes for importing to mediaportal TVseries. When I re-author and 'back-up' the disk, I get no video when I play it back (using TMT). The audio works fine though. I set it to no video compression FWIW.

Thanks for any help.

    compare this content ...

It is not allowed to post tutorials and/or link to webpages which contain applications or information about:

I understand now. But I'm not asking how to illegally copy a disk or remove its copy protection. I own the DVDs and I've put its contents on my HDD - with its original structure intact. I just need to know how to restructure it so that it will play nice with mp tvseries. A lot of guides I've seen to do this involve using multiple programs, demuxing, muxing, various codecs etc. and seems like a messy lengthy process. Using DVDshrink to reauthor to have only one VOB and pack it as an iso was easy and fast.... only video doesn't work.

If you are sure that it is legal in your country, you can try this on any non-protected DVDs:

multiple programs: pgcdemux, vobsub, mkvtoolnix - all freewares
    codecs: not needed
    messly lenghty process:
pgcdemux - demux all titles (usually 4 per disc) one by one. You'll get a video and (multiple) audio files. 1-2 minutes/episode
vobsub (optional) - use this program to extract subtitles (one title at a time). 1-2 minutes/episode
mkvtoolnix - use this to merge all above files into one .mkv file. 1-2 minutes/episode

    No quality loss at all.
This works for me for years.

Thanks. But I'd really like to end up with a DVD .iso at the end of it. I use TMT as an external player so I can play my BD content as well. Funny that DVD's are such a pain to deal with compared to BD's when trying to do this given the amount of time DVD's have been around. The nice thing about the DVDshrink processing is it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to do which is a real bonus since I got a box load of TV series on DVD's that I'd like to put on my HTPC's.

I realize this seems to be a sticking point in this discussion but I don't understand why. Sorry if I sound like a smart a$$, I don't mean too but... I bought the disc. It's mine. I own it. And I think that gives the right to watch it, regardless of what hardware I use as a 'player'. It would be like like buying software but being considered illegal to install it. I'd understand the issue if I was distributing the data freely, but I'm not.

Given that, and this is a forum for software that is purpose made to play media, how are you guys getting your mkv's and avi's etc. if you're not getting the data from legally purchased media? ...to the point that I'm being questioned about how I use my legally purchased media.

    Just curious.

I think everyone agress that it shouldn't be a problem. However the MP servers are in germany which has somewhat retarded laws around the whole issue of "removing copy protection", this is regardless if you legally own the copy or not. The rule is really just meant to protect the team from some overzealous lawyer.

Personally I think the discussion so far has not broken any forum rules, but I cannot decide this. It is always best to keep such things hypothetical and give tips on how to accomplish such a task without giving direct links or posting direct step by step tutorials. For instance, someone could tell you what keywords to google :)

To get back to the issue at hand, if you manually mount your .iso file, can you play it correctly with windows media player?
