I'm a long term FFDShow user. I don't use it for MPEG2 (TV), but I use it for AVIs & MKVs. The great thing about it is that you can configure upscaling, denoise, deblocking, & all sorts of post-processing options within it. It can really make low bitrate AVIs look great, & it's the best MKV decoder I've used.
I don't use SAF - I use LAV CUVID for MPEG2, FFDShow for pretty much everything else.
The MPC audio decoders (with SPDIF passthrough) handle pretty much everything except DD+ (which I have FFDShow configured for).
