    Hi,

I have a hard disk which I use only for recordings. A couple of days ago, I noticed that my recordings would not play back at all. After checking codecs, and everything else I could think of, I realised that the actual hard disk had died.

Based on a crash of the computer, I am pretty certain that I know when this happened. Obviously MediaPortal can't plan for all eventualities, but there is one thing which ought to be considered. I had a load of recordings scheduled, and according to my "Recorded TV", they had recorded - i.e. they were in the database. However, they had not really been recorded.

Is there any check to determine whether a recording path is still available, and to default back to the standard path if it isn't? Ideally it should also notify the user.

Sorry I don't have logs, but it took too long to try to track down the problem that all useful information was lost.

    Best wishes,

I would also vote that there should be a fallback procedure in place. Maybe an alternate recording path. Or even a pool of drives as described in another recent thread:
can TV3 pick a harddrive from a pool that is not being used, in order to maximize performance?

I guess the devs and admins will not see this as a bug (??) and it will therefore not be considered for version 1.

Well, for TVE3 to not recognise that the recording drive is not available and to add a recording to the database so that it looks to the user as if it has recorded has to be classed as a bug.

Presumably it will be easy to model this situation by setting up the recording path to a USB drive, and then switching the drive off to watch how it is handled.

I'll see if I can find anything useful in the logs.
