I am having a problem with BD playback and have been unable to figure out what is going on. I followed the Configuration Here to use the internal player. It works for a few discs (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Star Trek, Iron Man), but doesn't work for others (Bourne Ultimatum, Terminator Salvation). When I select the files to be played my custom intro plays, then I go back to the MP info screen for the movie. A few details.

I use DVDFab to rip to m2ts the main movie only and audio.
The movies that play in MP use DD/True HD, the movies that don't are DTS-MA.
I can play everyone of the movies fine using WMP and MPC-HC if I launch from Windows Explorer or by choosing File Open in each player.
I tried to setup MPC-HC as an external player but it says "File Not Found" after launching the MPC-HC screen.

I know there has to be something simple I am not doing, but I can't figure it out.

I think I'm doing the same thing as you.

I'm on 7 64bit, rip Blu-Ray main movies as m2ts using DVDFab. It all works well for me, definitely with DTS, you just need to go into MP config and add .m2ts as a recognized file extension and that's it. I think I also use MPC-HC as the h.264 codec as this fixed some audio track issues for me.

You obviously won't be able to play straight from disc without an external player (or maybe AnyDVD HD?) though.

See that is the weird part. Some rips work, some don't. I can play half of the movies I've ripped! I added the m2ts extension. I have tried using every available decoder from the SAF pack and I don't get any errors when trying to play so I don't think it is a decoder issue. It just goes to a black screen then immediately back to the details page in MP.

Last night I tried PowerDVD8 OEM to see if that would work. It plays all the movies fine if I launch the m2ts file from within PDVD. I get no audio though since the OEM is 2 channel only and I am using SPDIF. But you can't launch an index.bdmv file from media portal to PDVD, it wants the m2ts file! So PDVD doesn't work either. I guess next up is TMT3.

the only difference is that my files are in mkv format and they play fine with TMT3; MPC-HC but still just random. some play some dont.

Tonight I decided to try TMT3. I downloaded the trial version, set it up, and had ALL but one rip play perfectly! And that one bad one is a bad rip. So a re-rip should solve that problem! Looks like I'm shelling out more money but at least it works!!!

I ripp with AnyDVD HD and Clown_bd and make an ISO file containing main movie and English Audio. That gets mounted when selecting the Movie in MP by Virtual Clone Drive.

I have been using power DVD 8 as an external player which works 98% of the time.
Trouble is, my back-up of Avatar plays back with audio descriptive mode and the option for languages in PowerDVD is greyed out with this one. But it plays just fine if I launch P/DVD 8 on its own. (either back-up or the disc)
I tried TMT3, that also plays the mounted ISO (or the disc) as a standalone player, but through MP it plays without any sound. Aaaggghhhhh!!

When will MP support Bluray without having to use an External Player??

But if you're ripping the disc and extracting only the Main Movie (ie no extras) then you don't need an external player.

You can rip the .m2ts files using DVDFab or;
Rip straight to MKV (no compression) using MakeMKV.

Then you just play the video. Much better than mounting ISOs and using an external player.

ASFAIK one of the main problems with playing Blu-Rays is that there is no free menu navigator for the Blu-Ray format, so even if you avoid the copy protection by using AnyDVD-HD you still wouldn't be able to play the movie.

Basically, don't hold your breath. It will be a LONG time before Blu-Rays are playable as easily as DVDs IMO.

Well, I didn't know DVD FAb had come so far!!, I might have to try it.

Mind you I'm still confused.

I tested MP without an external player with the following results,
I tried a rip I have thats in file mode (BDMV/Stream/.m2ts) and i tried playing several of my ISO images.
They play in MP (sort of) by 1st throwing up an error message window saying " A decoder for the new file could not be found" If i just hit "return" on keyboard the movie plays back ok including AC3 or DTS 5.1.
However, one movie played back with distorted hissy sound???
I know this rip is ok cause TMT3 and Pdvd 8 can play it back fine.
I remember there was a reason I started using an external player.
How could I solve that then, I really would find it simpler to just use MP on its own??
