Synopsis::

I am having some problems with Media Portal. I recently had some issues with windows and had to uninstall service pack 2 and reinstall it. Now, when I tried to open Media Portal it will say 'Please install DirectX 9.0c - Current version installed: 4.09.00.0900 At first I thought I had this version installed on my computer, but I was wrong. So I downloaded DirectX 9.0c from the Microsoft website. I installed it, but it seems like it didn't install properly. It would only take a couple of seconds. And media portal still isn't working. How can I uninstall DirectX and then reinstall it?

    What happens if you "run" dxdiag does it load ?
    Has XP got all its updates ok.

    DirectX Version: 4.09.00.0900

    Should be 4.09.00.0904 is the latest.

    sounds like you have a corruption of the registry if dxdiag will not run/install.

    personally if I had that type of corruption on a HTPC, I would reinstall windows, after reformatting the drive.
