OK this is just driving me nuts. I'm posting here as a last resort to see if anybody has any suggestions on how to further trouble shoot this, I'd be eternally grateful.
I've been running on a new build of Windows 7 / MP 1.2.1 for a few weeks now and loving it. About 5 days ago, without any apparent reason, the computer would not restart from resume. The symptoms were, power light would come on, but black screen and no HDD activity. The only way to get out of this was to completely power down and restart. At reboot I received a BIOS "overclocking failed" error. Press F1 to go into setup. I have not set any overclocking ever on this mobo, and all settings in BIOS appeared as before. Simply "Save and Exit", and the system reboots and restores from hybrid sleep. (Yes had hybrid sleep enabled).
When I did the upgrade, I did a fresh install on a new SSD. So to rule out drivers / windows updates, I went back to the old harddrive (definitely working for several years) with XP / MP 1.1.2 - but now same problem. Cannot get out of standby, and upon restart get the overclocking error. So this proved it wasn't a drivers / windows update issue.
While on the XP build, I stripped out all the "surplus" hardware (extra drives, imon VFD display, TV Tuner) and rebooted. Same problem. Had to leave the ATI 4670 in so power management would work, as I didn't have any drivers installed for the onboard GPU - never used it because it's too underpowered. Still the same - cannot resume from standby. I ran memtest86 - all passed. I took the battery out, reset the CMOS and put a new battery in. BIOS settings definitely all reset, so went back in and set things up properly again (Date / Time, AHCI, Boot sequence etc). Still the same.
So I'm thinking I'm up for a new mobo, but not sure if I've exhausted the troubleshooting process. About the only possibility would be the ATI 4670, as I haven't really eliminated that as a problem. Any suggestions appreciated. Just seems odd that a mobo (or a 4670) would fail like this.
