Program Freeze on Resize (1 Viewer)

I found I could reproduce the same exception if I had another application pop on the desktop when running in TV mode (easily reproduced by ctrl-alt-del for taskmanager). Not sure why that would result in an "resize" event, but it resulted in the same exception backtrace.

I just installed the 25-7-2005 CVS distro and it has now fixed my crash, I can launch taskmanagers (which are forced into the background) without any crash now... very happy. Not sure if this is the same issue you have, but a crash with a similar backtrace is resolved for me.

Just one other question if I may :)

How can I suppress the .NET Exception handler popup ?

This is on a dedicated HTPC without any debug tools. I have the app launched with runapp so if it dies in the middle of the night with recordings pending it will restart and kick on, but if it hangs at the JIT dialog then it won't restart. I have a tool that archives the logs on a crash, so I can keep an eye on what is going on.

I've set the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgJITDebugLaunchSetting

to 1 but I still get the unhandled exception dialog.

Has anyone been able to disable this popup so the app can just be restarted ?

Thanks.

    @ HTPCOZ, how do you make MP start again after a crash?

    I was thinking of making a watchdog service that monitors MP and restarts it if it's not running or even a simple batch file that loops MP calls but my worry is that I'll be trapped in MP and can't exit if needed.

    How do you cope with this and what steps do you take?

    Thanks,

    Marcus.

    There are a couple of options...

    "runapp" which is a part of the microsoft zero administration kit (search for ZAK and you will find it). You pass it a single argument which is the process to launch and "monitor" if it dies it will restart it for you.

    Also there is another app called "AutoRestart" which is quite good, and allows you to run a post command. The problem I found with this one was it can be quite nasty if the process respawns quite quickly, whereas the runapp will catch quick respawns and prompt you if you want to reboot.

    I've also written a little tool that will take all the log files in a given directory and move them into a timestamped subdirectory, which can be used as a pre/post command to a MediaPortal failure (eg. in a batch file), so you can have automatic respawning without losing those all important logs files for debug. If people are interested, and the moderators are happy I could post it up.

    Now if only I could ensure I don't get .NET exception popups! That said since I've installed the 25th CVS I've not had one since, so I can't complain too loudly ;)

    Hi,

    I've updated to Mediaportal_0.2.0_RC1 and downloaded the latest CVS (mediaportal-cvs-11-07-2005--18-57), and I have experienced this problem in all installations so far (been using MP for almost a year now). Every time I resize the window within MyTV, MP crashes (see log below).

    According to previous posts, this should have been fixed, but I can't confirm that. :?

    Regards,
    Thomas

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    Hi,

    I also can confirm, that this bug isn't solved, even in latest CVS-Build (18-11-05). This bug only appears when switching to fullscreen in MyTV, not, if you go to fullscreen in main menu an then switch to MyTV.
    As this is an annoying bug in my view, it would be nice, if someone tried to fix it. Thx

    My config:

    This bug is still not solved. Downloaded latest sourcecode from CVS. Problem is happening when resizing form or going to full screen.

    Agreed fault still exists on resize, ok in home screen but resize with any video/tv format running and MP shuts down, also noticed on last couple of cvs that window pops up on entering TV saying "recorder busy" with nothing but timeshifting running, anyone else had this one.
