Hello, I have a PVR 500 MCE - Installed and working on Vista... I'm running a composite signal into the card from my virgin/ntl box, it's not tuned and is setup to view the composite channel only...and it works, sadly i thought i'd seen the last of WINTV2000 around the turn of the millennium but no... so i looked to mediaportal as i was sure it was a better choice...and it is, everything seemed to install ok... but the TV section does not allow me to turn on the card... a quick flash of an orange button and thats that... the cards are listed in MP setup as working... i have done nothing else im sure...and so I'm here asking for help... please advise me as I'm sure you have had it all working with this card :)

also on a side note... for as long as i have had this Vista PC i've never had the built in windows media-center to actually work... always updating itself... tried a Pinnacle card in there... couldn't find tuner and errors sent to MS...thought oh yes this good PVR 500 will work?... same thing, cannot find tuner, crashes and sends report...useless for me.. i was quite looking forward to using it actually... i dunno what you have to do for it to see a TV card...anyways... never mind, another piece of junk on my system waiting to be dev_nulled....

Anyways... I've checked the forums and i cannot find anything obvious with my problem...anyways thank you in advance...

    Hi,
You have to add some channels to get any further (error about empty channel list).
In MP Setup(configuration) -> Television -> TV Channels -> Add CVBS/SVHS (composite input for your card), if you need to scan for channels thats in Television -> Capture Cards -> "your card" & edit, scan for channels.

    Regards
    Roy

    Thank you so much...

If i got myself an RGB to SVideo coverter ( i hate the quality of composite) the svideo input would also need to be added to the channel list? or is it all there now :)

    anyways, thankyou

    Hi,
If you added those CVBS/SVHS they should all be there, you just have to test out which one it's the correct (at least i had to just test & see & delete the one i didn't need).

    Regards
    Roy

I have this same card, so I may be able to help.

Did you install the bracket that connects to the TV card and has a second set of inputs? If so, there will be two TV cards listed. MediaPortal doesn't seem to like that, for whatever reason. I simply deleted the second one, and it worked fine after that.

    Hi There,

I have just started using media portal and have followed this post to connect my pvr-500 to my ntl cable box. I have managed to get the CVBS/SVHS channel working, but when i go to scan for channels, i cannot pick any further ones up. I am using a scart to composite adaptor to connect the set top box to the tuner card and have included my mediaportal log if this helps. I am a bit confused and am very new to working with media center software. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks very much :D ,

    Tim
