Please could someone who has successfully got the haugpage mce blaster to control channels explain step by step how to do it. I'm very frustrated by this to be honest, having spent a several hours this afternoon trying to get it working.

My blaster seems to learn my telewest cable remote but can't then use them to change channels, although the light on blaster does flash nothing happens.

Hello Likwid:

I tried to get My Blaster to control my Haupage 150MCE channel changer and I couldn't get it to work after many, many frustrating hours. I know exactly where you are coming from!!

I DID GET IT WORKING but not with My Blaster. Here is a link to the thread on the MCE replacement remote driver. I didn't have to replace any drivers but this program will allow you to 'teach' MP what to 'blast' to change channels. Also note that you must use port 2 for it to work.

When I was teaching mine with this software I had to click the 'learn' button twice before it went into the 'learn' mode.

I hope that link works because I took it from an e-mail.

Good luck!!

Thanks Dale for your advice.

While i love the principle of open source software, i find it incredibly exasperating to be honest. The fact that nothing just works leads to incredible frustration. Additionally it seems that all too often, too little work goes into documentation. Don't get me wrong, i'm more than appreciative for those who donate their time implementing free software, i just wish it was easier.

For example. I found it very difficult finding instructions as to how i might go about implemting the epg. I found here in the forums very straightforward, step by step help which made it very easy, but this was only after searching for over an hour.

The plugin you link i'm sure will solve my problems, but there's zero instructions included with it. This seems odd, spending so much time implementing a fix without any documentation.

Once again i'll say thanks and kudos to all the developers involved. Mediaportal's great, and far better than any other windows alternative. I just wish this was easier..

Actually there is plenty of documentation with the plugin, make sure you get the latest version and look in the plugins\process\MCEReplacement folder for a DOCS folder.

    I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

    Cheers,

    Likwid,

Ignore this if your problem is now solved... but if not....

Exactly what Telewest set-top box do you have? Certain models won't work with MyBlaster. Find out if your STB uses the IrDA infra-red protocol (look on www.redremote.co.uk), if it does then you need to buy the "Serial Red-Eye" device advertised on the redremote website.

If you search this forum for posts started by myself (Pom) then you will come across my one detailing this problem.

Thanks and-81. There indeed does seem to be quite a bit of documentation included with the plug in. I still can't get it to work, though i'm snowed under with work now and don't have time to fix it. Probably get it looked at next month/

Pom. My stb is scientific atlantica and it does work ok with windows mce (which i have come to hate). Thanks for your help though.

If anyone wants to send me an image of a complete install and configuration of windows and mediaportal, that'd be great. :)

If you can give me the full model number for your STB I can try to include it as a "quick setup" option in my plugin, assuming it's not already in the list.

There is a bug in the currently released version that is causing STB channel changing problems. I'll be releasing a new version very soon, so if you're quick I can hopefully get your STB included.

    Cheers,

Sorry to get your hopes up Likwid, It seems the 4200DVB uses IRDA which is what laptops and mobile phones use to communicate in infrared. The MCE blaster doesn't support this type of IR signal.

I've done some more reading and found there are set top boxes that you can plug a USB keyboard into and press number keys to change channels. I know the linux guys have a way of making a computer look like a usb keyboard, I'm wondering if there is a way to do this with a windows pc. If so, I might have a new feature to work on ... I don't want to get your hopes up again. But if anyone has any info that might help, please tell.

    Cheers,
