Ok, I have asked this before a long time ago, but can't find that thread.

When I rip a movie using Mediaslayer, and then go over to moving pictures, some of the movies don't ever show up. I have to exit mediaportal, go into the configuration, manually import the movie, restart MP and then it shows up. This is the only thing that keeps me from using moving pictures for my movie handling.

Yeah, I know, what is the big deal? Well, my HTPC is set up without a keyboard and mouse, and is used like a piece of true home theatre equipment. I modify the skin(s) i use to remove the ability to just exit MP, MP starts automatically at startup, and is set to restart on a failure, the equipment is in a cabinet, and it is not a trivial task to do this. Moving pitctures would be perfect if I could somehow be able to still watch a movie or select a movie and update its info from within the gui using the virtual keyboard to help Moving Pictures find the right movie. this would alos help in letting Moving Pictures be able to keep home made DVD's wihtin it as well. For example, my wedding, vacations videos, home movies of my kids, etc... A way to view and play all movies wether they are found automatically or not...

Also, is there a way (the best way) to name a movie (or movie folder) to increase the likelyhood of the correct movie being pulled everytime. For example, I have Charlottes web from 1974. to pull that movie first time out, would I name it (or the folder) "Charlottes Web (1974)" or something like that? how exactly should it be named to pull the correct one without having to do anything?

Also, is it possible to have moving pistrues generate a .nfo file for each movie. that way, once I do have a movie correct, I don't have to go back and re-do all that work again when I have\want to update mediaportal with a new version. I find it odd that moving pictures supports reading .nfo files (which is a great idea), but won't generate a .nfo file for a movie once it is known. I may be just missing something there. I hope.

thanks

If you give as foldername "moviename (year)" you have a rather high chance of having MP choose the exact movie. If you use the exact same name as on IMDB (especially for complex names like with LotR - Fellowship of the Ring) you get an even higher chance.

About MP saving the .nfo, I guess you already got info from the previous posts.

One last thing... If you have an extra computer, why not connect to the remote directory and create a .nfo file by hand with the IMDB code inside ? Only for those few movies that don't work with the above ?

Becasue the Wife can't do that. Neither can my kids. I am trying to get the author of the MediaSlayer plugin to change the way movie titles get saved to have the correct format for greater accuracy. Or let me have access to the code somehow so I can see if I can do it, and pass it back to him. No luck yet, though.

And I didn't get the info about why Moving Pictures does not create a .nfo file. I will re-read the stuff again in case I missed it, but I don't know why Moving Pictures can't do it.

MovPics cannot do it, because right now none of the volunteers found the time to code it :)

From kcpent's post, there is a mention of an application that creates an .nfo in the movie-folder. You can find it here: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/moving-pictures-284/app-copy-artwork-details-movie-folder-71649/

As you want everything to work automagically, I fear it is not yet what you want/need though.

I have no experience with the MediaSlayer plugin, so I have nu clue what options it gives to change the name of the output folder. But I would say over 90% of my movies get recognised the first time when I put them in a folder 'moviename (year)'.

Edit: oh and they're currently working on this: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/moving-pictures-284/match-options-new-movies-within-mp-79721/
