Hi,

During install of RC1 , why not provide user with option to backup existing TV channel config and then import it into RC1 setup?

Also, will other databases get deleted? eg movie database, which I have spent a long time editing manually? Or can this be backed up and then overwrite new movie database file? Please advise on best way to keep movie database if this gets deleted with RC1. Same question for music database

Cheers,
Colin

    Hi,
Dunno why you ask about this since news on homepage clearly says:
    Code:
    MediaPortal and TV-Server installation (important!)
To ensure that your installation of MediaPortal and TV-Server will not get compromised by old files or broken databases this release candidate requires a clean installation.
All you had to do was copy old folders as backup & if you didn't like the new just uninstall & install old again & copy back old settings.....

    Regards

I restored the videodb and thumbs folder that was all i was prepared to risk as may effect new version, but all seems to be working fine here, if you do more db's, do 1 at a time and test.

Picture\music only got a few thousand files, so not a major problem to rescan, but a real pain getting correct movies with dvd cover.

Not sure that the news gave a full clear answer to what I was asking. So you are saying that for MP1 RC1, I lose all my TV database, movie database and music database?

Music and pics isnt an issue as mp3 scan will pick up all info from my mp3 tags., but losing the TV and movies is a huge problem as I have manually editted lots of info in there. I would have thought lots of MP users would have done the same also.

Are you seriously suggesting that in order to upgrade to MP1 RC1 I lose all that editting?

What happens to my radio settings? I have manually added lots of internet streams. Are these also lost?

Seeing as the news page did not answer those questions I feel my post is a valid one. I didnt appreciate you belittling my question making out like this is obvious stuff. This detail is not obvious to all users. Hence my questions, before I upgrade my "real" HTPC downstairs.

Thanks Paranoid, for a useful answer, i will try that also. The videoDB is the one for movies right, which will have all my editted info for movie titles and movie cover art?

I would be interested to see if anyone else has restored TV database for channel listings and radio feedback would be useful too. Eg has anyone managed to retain all radio stations that they had (i had alot of internet radio streams in the radio section on config, along with png files for their respective pictures)....

    Cheers,

    Hi,
Hmmm, you have the answers on homepage, so no more nagging about that.
This is a RC1 release which can have bugs, which has "new" stuff so a clean install it's required/recommended(that should ring a warning bell if you don't wanna lose anything which you already have & as i also know can take many hours to set up).
As PD say's you can copy back db's one by one & check if it still works, but if it doesn't do NOT post bugs here related to not a clean install ;)
Btw, if you use xp db & other "write" stuff it's moved to another place then MP root dir.

    Roy
