RC3 - Sort by name also sorts by file type? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

After upgrading from RC2 to RC3 I've noticed that my Videos are now sorted in the GUI by name and file type. That is, I have a video folder setup as

View: Share
List: Big Icons
Sort: Name

Previously all entries were sorted by name, with RC3 the entires appear to be sorted by name and type. i.e. all the ISO's are sorted by name, then all the .avi's are sorted by name and listed after all the ISO's. So I effectively dont have a full sorted by name list anymore.

Anyone else noticed this?

I found that putting all the avi files in individual folders and keeping the iso files all in the root folder sorts this out. I have the "every movie has its own directory" option checked.

Screenshots attached as I'm not describing this well!

As you can see the avis such as american psycho and blade runner are now correctly sorted with the isos.

I just moved a couple of AVI's to thier own directories and ticked that box and whilst it didnt quite have the desired affect I see what I need to do now to resolve this.

As it stands my view is now ordered correctly, but the movies I moved into folders are now literally a level down - when I click on a movie (thats in a folder) at the root level I'm taken down a level into that movies folder from where I can see the actual media file that want, which I then I have to click on that file to to play it (if that makes sense).

This seems to be because my view is set to "Shares" which is not using the media portal movie database (I dont actually have any of my movies currently entered in the DB). With no movies in the database, when you switch the view to something else - you see nothing in the list of movies. I've just tested adding a couple into the DB and using the "Title" view, this orders them correctly and doesnt navigate into the folders when you click on one - it just plays the contained media.

So although it would be good if I could get this ordering working correctly in the share view (that doesnt use the database) as it did in RC2, it seems the workaround is (as you say) is to click the "each movie has its own folder", add my movies to the database and change my view from "Shares" to something else (like Title).
