After updating from RC1 to RC3, unfortunately TV server RC3 shows to be the least stable version since 0.2.2 for me. I have been away from home and I my family is all over me. I better not repeat the error reports they gave me.

There seem to be many issues, but here is a first one that I could document:

TV recording not completed (the end is missing, don't you hate that?).

Recording was programmed for 6-6-2010 from 20:05 to 22:15, but the recording is only about 50 minutes. It started on time (although the five minutes advance recording does not seem to be granted), but stopped after 50 minutes.

The last TV.log starts at the time when the recording stops. This is the moment that a client was started to watch a recorded show. The TV.bak shows more history, including where the recording started at 20:05, but logging stops immediately after starting the recording. The error logs are empty.

Of course the RC4 update came to mind. But, updating is exactly what got me into trouble. RC1, RC2, RC3, RC4, ... I feel as if I'm chasing my tail. The 1.0.2 TV server was rock solid. A wise Englishman told me once "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". I was thinking about downgrading. Anyway I will be away from home again, so I have time to think about it.

I do not use EPG grabbing from DVB.

I have other repeated problems. After starting a stream, the stream starts and continues, but all clients become unresponsive. Turns out the that the TV service hangs and can only be restarted with a reboot. Have not been able to document this one yet. I was thinking that this might be related. The recording continues, but the TV service is already in trouble (logging stopped). When the client connects the TV service gets a wake up call (first message of new log is 'deleting invalid recordings').

    Hi,

I would suggest a complete uninstall of all MP products, including the TV database, then reinstall from scratch. It is a simple but unfortunate fact that sometimes databases get corrupted and random problems occur.

For me, RC4 in singleseat and on two network clients is rock stable. It has not always been this way, but RC4 is good. Of course some users are having problems, but on a fairly clean system with minimal codecs and other software, it can be pretty good.

Looking at the TV.bak log did show another problem. The 5 minutes advanced recording (I checked the configuration, 5 minutes advance, 25 minutes after) are not granted. Also the wake-up from standby is too late.

    See TV.bak at: 06-05 20:30:01, 06-05 20:35:03, 06-06 8:15:09 and 06-06 13:40:09

Looking at the TsWriter log it seems that the 25 minutes after are not granted either ...

Please start new threads, with logs, for these issues. Otherwise it gets too confusing for the team.

Please state where and how you set the pre/post record time (TV config or within MP) as this might make a difference. Is this setting not honored only when the computer needs to wake from sleep? I have pre/post record times set within TV config, and all is working fine, but then my server never goes into sleep mode.

Of course, I did start new thread on pre-recording time, post-recording is OK. Can't document TV server hanging at this time.

Back to TV server stability. Looking at the yesterdays TV.log file, I noticed there is a problem with shutting down.

The TV sever is in standby and at 1:55 there is a windows schedule initiation of a shutdown. This trigers a problem with the database. Could this cause my stability problems?

I will make sure that the server wakes up before the 1:55 shutdown and see if that helps.

It is all about energy conservation, it is hard trying to save the planet ;).

When shutting down, all services are being stopped. Normally I would expect dependent services to be stopped first. But in your case it seems MySQL is stopped first. Check your Windows event log to see when the stop of MySQL was initiated and compare to the time you see the exception in tvserver's logs. Also verify in services that TVService depends on MySQL service.

It looks like MySQL was not stopped at all. Only the TV service is (see screenshot 1). And (therefore?) MySQL has a problem at the system startup at 7:00 in the morning (see screenshot 2).

TV service depends on MySQL (see screenshot 3).
