    Hey fforde (and team),

I just had a question about the behaviour of Moving Pictures in regards to the Recently Added section.

In regards to the previously discussed suggestion for the full date being supported for sorting; Issue 551 - moving-pictures - Support a full release date rather than just year - Project Hosting on Google Code

I am not sure if you remember or not, but, everytime I add a new movie to my collection, which is an older movie, I have to go in and manually change the Windows time stamp "Date Created" so that the movie doesn't go to the top of the "All Movies" section.

Because of this, it would appear that the movie doesn't actually get added to the "Recently Added" section.

My question; is this the intended behaviour?

It is not a great issue, I know that I am in a rare situation where I don't want the movies to be listed at the top of the sort by date list.

Hope this makes sense and thanks for your time reading

If newly added movies go to the top of your "All Movies" section, this is because that is what you have chosen to sort by. You can change the sorting method with the context menu (F9 if you're a keyboard user). The Recently Added category simply filters by the "Date Added" field, showing anything from the last... month or so? Off the top of my head I do not recall the exact time frame.

When you import a movie the "Date Added" field is normally populated by the files's "Date Created". Under advanced settings you can optionally change the date that is set for this field to the file's "Date Modified" or simply the current date.

As far as I know everything involving the Date Added field is currently working as intended. Does this clear things up? Maybe I am not clear on what you are asking.

Hi fforde, thanks for the reply... I think the problem is on my end and how I am trying to convert Moving Pictures to the way I want it prior to Issue 551 being completed.

You are right, I do sort by the Date Added in the all movies section. I am still adding both older movies and new movies to my collection as I go along, but, only want the newest (release date) up the top.

Maybe a solution would be until Issue 551 is finished is to have, All Movies sorted by Date Added (Modified) and Recently Added sorted by Date Added (Created)... Then that should cover what I need until then.

I didn't know that there was the option to change Date Created, Date Modified & Current Date ! Thanks for that one :)

Date added refers to the date when the movie was added to your movie collection, it is not the date/year the movie was released.

Hi, it actually doesn't .. It refers to the windows date stamp.. The default is 'date created' . Which essentially means the date when the file was copied; so for example a movie that is 10 years old and you copy it from drive d: to drive e: then that is where the order will go from

In any event, there is an issue in the works for a future version which will allow date sorting by movie release date.. That is what I would like for my collection/setup.. It is not high up on the list, but, hopefully the Moving Pictures team will get a chance to look at it in the upcoming version :)

The Date Added field is intended to represent when the movie was added to your collection. For the vast majority of people the best value to use for this is the Create Date of the file, this is generally when you first ripped or acquired the file. A normal file copy in Windows Explorer should not as you suggested change the file create date.

Yes this is a planned future enhancement but I am not sure how this is related to the Recently Added field. They are related only in the sense that they are both date fields, the purpose and meaning is totally different though.
