recommended way to convert TV DVDs to Video Files for TVseries (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for a simple (mostly automated) way to convert my TV DVD collection into files that index into TVSeries. I've done some with GordianKnot, but it still is a pain. anything newer ways of doing it?

If space isn't an issue, consider MakeMKV (though not automated - no queue). Will straight rip (no encoding) from DVD to indivdual mkv files (with subtitle and chapter support, if required). Oh did I mention its also free.

Can MakeMKV be run from the command line? If so, you could make a batch file to automate the process.
