When I capture hi def content off my airstar hd5000, when I watch live tv I can hear the sound but do not get a picture. When I watch the recordings, I get the picture but no sound. When I watch through windows media player I get both.

Also a side note. When I watch 1080i recordings it works every other time. One time it will show a black screen that lasts a few minutes and then goes back to recorded shows and the next time it will show the video as above. It just seems to alternate back and forth.

If you installed MPV\MPA codecs with MP they can screw this up for you, as they can over ride other codecs.

Uninstall MP and then reinstall without any codecs, of course if you did not install these in the first place, forget what i just said.

I reinstalled without the mpa/mva codec and I got the same response. I let it install the dscaler codec. Do I need to try without the dscaler one.

because you need to buy, install and configure one.

or what feed to you get from your HD provider? mpg2 or h.264?
