Recordings made with Media Portal jump and/or get stuck (1 Viewer)

TV programs that I record with Media Portal don't play back smoothly. They either stall (audio and/or video get stuck) or jump from frame to frame. Once the program resumes after this, the audio and video tend to be out of sync. I'm running MediaPortal on a Windows XP computer with 2496 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory and a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 (Model 79xxx, Hybrid ATSC/QAM) receiver. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Steve

    Hi and welcome Steve :)

We need far more detail to be able to help you with this. I see you deleted the information template - we do request that you either fill that out or complete the system specifications in your profile. Please at least provide us with logs as per our support forum thread rules - it is really easy to do this:

    1. Find the "debug mode" link in the "Team MediaPortal" folder in your start menu.
    2. Start it.
    3. Select option 1 "report a bug...".
    4. Click "proceed" - this should start MediaPortal.
    5. Reproduce the problem.
    6. Close MediaPortal.
    7. A zip file will automatically be created on your desktop with all the information that I need.
    8. Post the zip file here.

    Notes:
    - this tool is also known as the watchdog, and there is full documentation for it in our wiki -->here<--
    - you need to make sure you have run MediaPortal configuration at least once before you attempt to run debug mode

Check out the watchdog documentation if you get stuck - there are also instructions for attaching a zip file to your post in there.

    Hi again

It looks like you're using an ancient version of MediaPortal - version v1.0.4.23491. I'm sorry but there is just no way that we can provide support for such an old version (more than 2 years old now I think - the code has changed *radically* in that time). Added to that, your system is not particularly powerful. If you're trying to play h.264/AVC video then I think it would really struggle. The GPU doesn't support DxVA and the CPU is only 2.2 GHz. Having said that, there are a lot of "Program clock reference forward jump" entries in your logs, so I suspect that peculiarities in the format of the video is the real culprit in this case. Such an issue would almost certainly have been fixed in more recent versions of MediaPortal.

So to summarise: please upgrade to MP 1.2.0. You are welcome to upload a *short* sample recording (maximum 50 MB) to our FTP server if you want me to check that it works in MP 1.2.0 before you upgrade. The FTP server login details are at the bottom of -->this<-- page.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

No need to apologize. You've been quite helpful. However, I've encountered a problem. When I try to start the new version o MediaPortal I receive the message; "TvPlugin and MediaPortal don't have the same version. Please update the older component to the newer one. MediaPortal Version: 1.2.0.0 TvPlugin Version: 1.0.4.23491" I've tried to find this and fix this but I haven't been successful. Can you help?

    Hi again

The message indicates that the upgrade didn't go so well. It looks like MediaPortal updated okay, but TV Server did not. I'd say you'd need to do a full uninstall of MediaPortal, then reinstall with version 1.2.0.

Maybe I'm missing something (after all it's late). I don't see TV as any of the options in the opening menu on MediaPortal 1.2.0. I do see that I get to something called TV by clicking on one of the controls in the upper right. However clicking on TV at this screen does nothing. Since recording TV is a main use that I make of MediaPortal this presents a major problem.

That is precisely my point. When you upgraded (or did whatever you did), the "process" failed to update the TV Server part of MediaPortal. MediaPortal 1.2.0 can't work with your older version of TV Server. You need to uninstall MediaPortal and TV Server, and then reinstall so that you get MediaPortal and TV Server with matching version. Only then will you get TV back in MediaPortal.

    Make sense?

I missed the need to uninstall TV Server. I'll try the whole process again in the morning (EST). Thanks!
