Recordings to DVD? (1 Viewer)

I'm still looking through Media Portal and seeing what it can do...

I am using MP for TV viewing and recording as this is where I see MP shine. It's very easy for the GF to use and with a nicely configured EPG and comskip I have her really excited that she can now record TV with a click and have it ad free.

An average .ts recording is about 6-8Gb for 30-50 minutes which is a fair chunk so obviously I don't keep most recordings for long. But i'd like the option to compress recordings to divx or similar and know there is plugins that do this but haven't looked into them yet as I am still setting up and testing.

Is there a way I can create a DVD (viewable in DVD player) of recordings easily (GF easy)? Even if I can just compress the files to divx then create a DVD with the files would be ok since the DVD in the bedroom plays divx.

You could also use MCE Buddy. This freeware runs as a 'service' and monitors a folder for movie files (recordings). It will then convert them to MP4, H.264, etc. and will even use Comskip to strip the ads as well.

Cool, I knew there was something out there like this..... Do you know if it supports .ts files (I assume it does) but iit only mentions DVRMS files and for some reason I get crashes when I try record in DVRMS. I'm at work so I can't test but will as soon as I get home.

    I love HTPC gear :D

I used to use it with DVR-MS files but as I am now on RC1, I changed it to use MPG files instead. Sorry but I don't know if handles TS files...

I did too - but I never got it to work...
x264 encoding always gives me stuttering in the transcoded recording

But it should work fine with .ts files...

OK, so I have tried MCEBuddy and it does work quiite well and quick on .ts files compressing a 3GB file down to about 300MB DivX with AC3 audio and the quality was fine for me.

    Problem....

The comskip side of things does not seem to work with MCEBuddy?

Comskip works brilliant with MP. I'd say in my few weeks oftests that 9.8/10 recordings have had spot on ad cuts when viewing whiich has impressed my girlfriend quite a bit... And me too for that matter.

When I did a test with MCEBuddy, first thing I found was that it did not use the already created comskip files. Then it re-created new files that did not work with Media Portals auto skip function. I copied my comskip.ini file to the MCEBuddy program folder, overwriting the one that was there and it still did not work for me.

So at the moment, it can compress files fiine, but not cut ads for some reason. There is no actiivity at the MCEBuddy siite so I will have to rely on someone posting here to say at least if they have it working.

I've been using MCEbuddy with .ts files and works ok...I have same type of problems with comskip but guess it's a matter of not having opimized .ini file for my country (Italy).
Issue with me is the following: with .ts file and 2 languages recorded (italian+english), mcebuddy (output format h.264) would just do conversion to english (or italian). I would like to keep both languages... anybody knows how to do that ?

    Thanks a lot in advance
keep up with the good work!!!!

I tried MCE Buddy with Comskip but never got it to work successfully. :-(
I also tried copying my working Comskip ini file into the MCE buddy folder but that didn't help either.

One thought I have just had is that maybe the version of Comskip that is bundled with MCE Buddy is old or different? Maybe replacing all the Comskip files in MCE Buddy with a newer and known working version might fix it?

    Cheers,
