I use TightVNC. Works perfectly for me. I can see everything that's shown on my tv - and just as it is shown on my tv. It doesn't use much memory either.

Does this mean that it updates your Viewer PC quickly enough that the video screen gives a smooth image?

I have used both VNC and TightVNC and find that the speed at which they update the Viewer PC is quite slow and unwatchable, but still usable for administration purposes. This is over a 100 Mbps wired network connection.

No, I got the same "1fps-feeling" when playing videos over vnc :-\ But for administrating purposes it works great.

It depends.
Remote desktop or WinVNC are both good programs to use.
Remote desktop is built into Windows XP onwards. Type in mstsc from the run box.

Other times I just boot it up, copy what every information have over to the htpc.

Failing that, I take a monitor over to the htpc and directly work off it.

But RDP does not support DirectX and administrative rights are restricted.
It's not possible to remotely control MP with the RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
To bad, because it's much faster then VNC.

With the VNC client connecting with medium quality settings I get acceptable framerates when vieuwing the MP interface. Animations are quite smooth. Watching video with VNC is out of the question with my 100Mbit connection and limited 2Ghz CPU on the server.

Bad News - I was unable to logon via rdp without locking the desktop of my MP. Any I other people having the same problems?

I got the message that a login will disconnect the current user...like i am connecting to the console instead of a further rdp session :-(
