The video section of my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H is beginning to fault, so I'm looking for a replacement micro-ATX that can use the AM2 Athlon 64x2 6000+ 3,01 cpu and the 4 gig of DDR2 667 Dimms I have already. I'm really lost with all the chip numbers, but of course need hardware acceleration for HD.

    Also required:

    - a DSub (DVI/VGA) for my current HT situation.
    - S/PDIF
    - at least 4 USB 2.0 ports
    - 1 gigabit LAN port
    - 1 IDE and at least 5 SATA 3Gb/s connectors.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Sometime later this year, this computer will become a dedicated TV-Server/Media Server (a new client is in the planning stages).

    Thanks!

    Chuck

ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Has all the requirements and more and it uses the ATI Radeon HD 4200, Have built one with this board before.

Hard to find a board with more options without going to the AM3 platform.

Sorry to hijack an old thread, but the exact same thing is happening to me (exact mobo in fact)

However the m4a785 is no longer available - any recommendations?

Again I have working cpu and mem just need a new board but understand if there aren't any available any more.

    Hey!

I just finally ordered my MoBo ... I noticed the first recommended board wasn't available, too.

I did locate a board that is as close as I could find. But requires new memory, as it has 240 pin instead of the 184 pin.

    ASRock A785GM-LE

Also only 2 mem slots. I ordered 2 Corsair 667 2Gb cards for the lowest common denominator for the CPU. The Mobo is upward designed for AM2/AM2+ and AM3 cpu's .. so I can upgrade both the CPU and memory when possible... eventually an AM3. The board has only one ide connector, but does have 6 SATAII connectors.

It seems older-CPU compatable boards are becoming hard to come by.

I haven't installed the Mobo yet, the memory comes in tomorrow.

Let me know how it goes.

I too get confused by all the different numbers. Looking at the specifications page for your board and mine (they were different after all) I see that we both support DDR2. However you state that you were ordering 240pin DDR as your only had 184 - according to Wikipedia you should already have the required memory!

If I were to install 2 GB I may have been okay, but I need at least 3 Gb on this machine for other stuff (not a dedicated HTPC) I still have XP 32 bit. so I can't see 4 Gb anyway, but with only 2 slots for RAM (the old board had 4). The main reason I went with new Mem.

I just ordered a ASRock A785GMH - the only difference is mine supports HDMI whereas yours is DVI-D. See what it is like in a few days time. Pity the ASUS wasn't available as I prefer to use recommended components rather than a shot in the dark.

Let us know how you get on.

    Stupid stupid stupid me... :mad::mad::mad:

I knew it, but it didn't click.

The ASRock board is AM2/AM2+/AM3 ... I don't know how many times I read it, typed it, whatever .... completely ignored that the socket on the old ASUS board is a socket 939 ...... ... :sorry:

I know I steered at least one person wrong..... Read up on the details before listening to me ....

E(vil)-Bay is the only place your gonna find a socket 939 ...

    BIG APOLOGIES

    Stupid me

I will go hide in that hole I dug (Now I gotta buy that new CPU anyway)
