... please look at how many controls are defined for each of the colored buttons in the xml, that is what I'm having difficulty with. Buttons with only one set of controls are no issue.

In the case of the color buttons, all actions are for teletext, meaning they are useless (for US). Delete them without fear!

Of course you need to keep the "No Condition" (condition="*"), which you will reassign to your needs.
