Resizing of MP / Crash (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm a newly registered user, but I'm using MediaPortal for quiet some time now and I'm very happy with it. All bugs/issues that I have are either resolved or fixed on my own.
But there is one issue I cannot resolve on my own. From time to time, when watching either a movie or TV show, MP will leave the fullscreen mode (=1360*768px) and resize it to something like ~800*600px, but the video image will not play smooth anymore. Also, it is not possible to recover/change it back to fullscreen. The audio keeps playing however. Restarting MP helps, but this happens almost everyday. But no specific pattern when this happens.

Attached is also the log of the last crash/resize. The crash started at 09.50 (almost end of file)

I'm honestly not sure of this is a MP problem, windows 7, driver or even TV/ Receiver problem. Any input is appreciated.

Will do the Debug mode. I basically need to wait until it crashes again? (Will take sometime, as I dont use the standard video section of MP. Will need to add some items to the database.)

Will edit this post with the log file, once done.

Edit1: For some reason, i cannot watch any videos when using the MP default skin + settings and no plugins. It doesn't see the video database or something.
Now running the 2nd option "For Non Reproducible Problems within MediaPortal"

Check the Event Logs of your system. If the driver crashes (sound like it) you should see an entry in there (I guess System Event log).

I did check that.. but nothing to be found there with the last crash. Will keep an eye to it however.

Still running in debug mode now, waiting for it to crash (Well, if it does not crash, even better of course)

Now it crashed/resized after a TV-show was done. Nothing special to be found at the event viewer (no errors, just regular info)
    Attached is the MPdebug log.
    Hope this helps a bit.

Edit 2 (14.39): crashed again, this time the resized MP also went black. (normally I can still see the video image)
From what I can tell from the MP log, it seems some DX9 issue?
Normally it doesn't crash 3 times a day...

Edit3: added the last part of the event viewer, system log

Changed the h.264 decoder to "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" and that seems to have fixed the issue (for now). But at the cost of higher CPU usage.

Will EVR or VMR9 make any difference? (in crashing, not talking about image quality)

MediaPortal crashed again - see attached log. (Crash start at 12.59) (screen went black - returned and only showed MP at resolution of 800x600 & unable to put it back to fullscreen mode; restarting MP fixed that ofcouse)
It seems to crash only on this one series (Mad Men), but also on Falling Skies from time to time.
From what I could tell, it seems a DX9 crash? Drivers are updated about 1 month ago (AMD/ATI). (But problem is from before that)

Any suggestions? Should I consider buying new hardware? (Which should be more powerfull)

I have an idea: It could be that your connection to the tv is loose and once in a while windows perceives it as if the TV is disconnected, resulting in a resolution change to the default resolution. This in turn triggers a known issue called "Windows 7 & half fullscreen" (check this thread: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/operating-system-330/windows-7-half-fullscreen-71785/). So I would do 2 things:

    1. Check the cabling between GFX card & TV.
    2. Follow the steps described in the (sorry, long) thread I linked above (use a remote control SW like TeamViewer, disconnect TV and set resolution to your preferred size).

    Might help.

Thanks for suggestion - let me look into that. Might take a little while indeed :)

Note 1: just checked the windows event viewer and it seems that indeed either the cable could be the issue, or a driver issue (lots of ATI events, mostly about display adapter)

Note 2: MediaCenter is linked to SONY Receiver and via the receiver the HDMI cable goes to the TV.
