restart TVserver often fails (2 Viewers)

Hi,

recently, I experience general instability with TVserver3 and the latest SVNs of MP. When I upgrade, I usually reinstall everything new from scratch (even SQLExpress). Still I made the following observations:

- Mostly, recordings that are scheduled are not made
- often, when I start MP (single seat installation), and switch on TV, it freezes and I have to kill the whole process. - - Also, when it works and I switch off TV (in MyTV), MP freezes for about 5 seconds (no user-interaction possible)
- when I try to restart the TVservice manually (either in TV-server GUI or in XP system-control), it will stop the service but does not restart the service (tapping on "start service" has no effect).

I never find any hint in the logs. It is even the case that in the tv.log, I see that the computer woke up for a recording (due to Powerscheduler) and switched to the right channel, but still nothing is recorded! This is strange. As I have two kids and always come home late from work, I have no time to really go bug-hunting. Is there any way to check what exactly happens when I restart TVservice? Is there a windows-log anywhere where I can see which dependent services fail to restart when I try to restart TVservice?
By the way: the combination TVserver plus MP (even in multi seat environment) has worked in my system some time ago. Only since about 6 weeks I have these massive problems.

Axel

ok, I saw that I have exactly the same problem as it is described in this thread:

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/tv_server_doesnt_autostart_after_pc_started-t25866p9.html

So I will observe what happens there :)

Thanks,
Axel

In the meantime I have tracked down my error a bit: the problem with the service failing to restart does only appear when I activate the Powerscheduler Plugin in TVServer. In the MS Event log I always see the following error before the TVservice is restarted (or before it fails to do so):

.Net Runtime 2.0 Error Report:

Event Type clr20r3. P1 tvservice.exe. P2 1.0.0.0. P3 46e47fe3. P4 powerscheduler.interfaces. P5 0.0.0.0. P6 46e47fd4. P7 a. P8 51. P9 system.objectdisposedexception. P10 NIL

what can this be?

yes, I have tried both (with check to reinitialize and without).
I really have the feeling that the latest svns have a problem in the compatibility with the powerscheduler (at least on my system :) ).

I have noticed the same problem with my setup.
I recently re-formated all my machines ( server and 2 clients ) and re-installed everything, which included
    - All MS windows updates ( and i mean everything !! )
    - All the latest drivers for all hardware
    - MP RC2 + latest SVN at the time
    - TVE3 + latest SVN at the time.
    - MS SQL instead of MYSQL which i was using before

Nothing works..... the TVServer service is an absolute pain in the rear end to say the least when it comes to stopping and starting it. It comes down to the fact that i now have to leave my TV server on 24/7.

I have posted numerous pleas to have the whole standby/hibernate/resume issue sorted out, but it seems that it is not a priority to most, which is a real shame.

Don't waste your time AxelSt, you will get nowhere with this... Its an ongoing problem which has yet to be addressed.
If you want reliable recording, leave your machine on all the time.
My guess is that there is only a small number of people who have been successful in your quest...

    cheers

The situation is somewhat different here. Most of the people do not have problems with it at all.
And the ones having it, there it is system dependant and therefore difficult to track down / debug.

    Hello,

I observe a similar problem. After resuming from hibernate the TVserver is not able to tune to any channel. On the MP screen it says 'no audio/video detected', in the tv.log I see it 'waiting for pmt'.

I'm not sure since when I have this problem, I know that some few weeks before it worked fine to me - even without the 'reinit tuners after standby' option.

I just built a workaround which alleviates the problem: After resuming from hibernate I issue a reboot. I wrote a small batch file issuing a reboot. This batch file is called by the option 'run command after hibernate' (or so) in the TV server power scheduler plugin.

I think this workaround is better than leaving the server running all the time. Hope it helps
