Hi there,

I have been having a stroll through the threads on here and have come accross some discussion on either using RTSP or UNC for streaming to client's.

I am not really sure I get the difference. Could anyone possibly give me a summary and, ultimately, shoudl this affect my set up in any way? i.e. is this sort of thing only for the really advanced user?

The magic word is streaming, that relates only to rtsp, unc is the same as playing a local file on your hdd, so totally unrelated to network protocols even if it is on a server as long as the folder is shared.

Someone else may explain this in a better way ;)

The current way to set it up is here - https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...rtsp-in-multiseat-mode-test-plz.36735/page-28 (and also here - http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...ediaPortal_Configuration/22_TV/Debug_Options? )

....and note - you must put full UNC paths (i.e. starting with \\) in the boxes - mapped drive letters will not work[DOUBLEPOST=1358179699][/DOUBLEPOST]RTSP => Real Time Streaming Protocol - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTSP (basically a 'push the packets out at the correct rate and it's tough if they get lost' protocol, but it's low overhead and generates minimum network traffic)

UNC => Uniform Naming Convention - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_Naming_Convention#Uniform_Naming_Convention

When the 'Multi-seat setup: use UNC paths' box is ticked, it does not use RTSP - it reads the time shift buffer files like any other remote file in Windows (i.e. using the SMB/SMB2 protocol).

When the box is not ticked, it ignores the extra settings and uses RTSP.

    Hi,

I/We have try UNC setting and somehow RTSP is in use for LiveTV (streaming server.Log) is filled, i'm pretty sure it was not the case on previous MP version (don't remember when).

@mm1352000 does something change on that side ? :)

Edit : In fact UNC is used but also the RTSP server is started (but not used).
That MP MP Client use UNC and we can connect VLC to the steam in the same time lol
