Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Following graph was built with the version 100809b.

I cannot guarantee 100% sure that the image is not there, as I am on remote desktop. But without the SAF I did get image through my remote session. Here the image just stays on the gray background.

Edit: obvious difference - VMR input vs EVR input

Graph is correct, that all i can say :/
No idea why it doesnot show any video...

I went as far back as 1005-something version... So I guess it is more to do with how MP sets up the preview. Not a showstopper for me. If I want the preview, I'll just remove SAF first :D

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Has anyone encountered problems with SAF 5.00 on Nvidia ION?

Yesterday I reinstalled the OS on my Acer Aspire Revo 3610 (Atom 330, ION, 2GB RAM), installed MePo 1.1.0 final with MovingPictures, MyTVSeries and MyAnime2 and SAF 5.00 build 816 (in this order). ffdshow DXVA is set as the h.264 decoder in MePo configuration.

Now, the problem is that 1080p video lags horribly in MePo internal player, whole blocks of frames are dropped and ASS subtitles don't work properly, the video is unwatchable.
When I play it in MPC-HC included in SAF, the situation is slightly better, video is more-or-less okay, but the audio is completely out of sync (delay of about -500ms) and disappears occasionally.
When I switch MPC-HC to its internal filters, everything plays perfectly.

The video drivers are latest from nVidia, here is the clip I used for testing: K-ON!_OP2_[1080p,BluRay,x264]_-_THORA v2.mkv - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

Has anyone encountered a similar problem? What other info do you need?

MPC-HC Stuttering Video 01: Here

Ah... I misunderstood earlier, I thought your MPC-HC playback was always good, and I was hoping the graphs would show an obvious difference. Graphs for MePo vs MPC-HC are a bit different, and my guess would be the MPC-HC settings cause this. But nothing sets off alarm bells in my mind. I don't have direct experience with MKV/x264, so hopefully the experts can have a look and give some insight.

7. Since this problem affects specific files in both players, try playing these files in VLC (VideoLAN player) to help verify they are good. VLC has internal codecs as I understand. (We want to rule out the files being corrupted.) If VLC plays these smoothly, then proceed with troubleshooting.

8. Try playing the files directly from GraphStudio: File > Render Media File... > (choose your MKV file) > Play
If this has stuttering, you know the problem is not with the player (MePo or MPC). Need to delve further into codec or renderer or hardware.

Regarding hardware, interesting that the MP diagnostic screens actually look OK. When I was troubleshooting stuttering issues (with TS/MPEG2 content) there were tons of dropped frames and the Actual frame rate was noticeably lower than the Display framerate. Your screens do not show such signs of hardware choking. And your loads don't seem to be high. (Although I don't know how to assess GPU load -- maybe GPU-Z utility is better?)

9. That said, is your GPU driver up to date?

You did understand right the first time around. MPC-HC plays everything stutter-free. My wording was awkward in that post, I have now re-worded where that confusion may have arisen. Apologies for this.

7. Nethertheless, I have just tried playing al three videos in VLC, they don't show any signs of stuttering that MP does.

8. Playing the videos in GraphStudio also reveals stutter-free playback with all three videos.

9. I am using the latest ATI 10.7 CCC driver.

Where should we go from here?

Could SAF be causing certain movies to stutter?

I doubt about it. Only known problem right now is BBC HD + PDVD10 and DXVA = droped frames. Win7 video decoder is only one working corectly.

What type of TV do you have - LCD or plasma?
If you have plasma (or any orher "flickering" screen), you need to chanfe refresh rates to match movie FPS and TV refresh rate to have stuter free playback.
LCD doesnot flicker, so there is no such issues.
I have an LG 50PK350 plasma. The stuttering isn't the sort you see from an incorrect refresh rate, the videos freeze for a around 1 second and after a while (after more stuttering/freezing) stop playing altogether and MP returns to the GUI. Some movies do not even start playing.

I think it have something to do with FFDShow colorspaces output + used renderer. I can disable FFDShow for MP TVServer, but i am afraid this will kill FFDShow for LiveTV completely.

Right now SAF will disable Gabest MPEG-2 and MPC audio decoders. I will change this in next version and SAF will not touch them any longer - maybe it will help.

Is DXVA in use or not? (dudning playback press CTRL+ALT+O).

8. Playing the videos in GraphStudio also reveals stutter-free playback with all three videos.

That was all i need to known. This directly pointing to MePo issue.

Can you please try this build? FFDshow is now blocked for TV server configuration.

Cyberlink (if you have unlocked SAF)/Gabest decoder should be in use now.

Would you have any knowledge as to what may be causing the problem please hoborg?

No :(
I bet Win XP will fix this issues for you.

I have just upgraded from Win XP and didn't experience this problem. Admittedly, I have also upgraded:

- the GPU from an X1900XT to a HD5670,
- MP from 1.0 to 1.1., and
- gone from a custom Codec installation to using SAF.

Hence, it's not an easy comparisson to make, especially seeing that only half of my movies don't work, wereby all other videos (incl. those of the same format) do !

I have documented my findings to date in THIS THREAD.

Hopefully I will be able to get this sorted asap as it's a real PITA!

Seems to still be using FFDshow, judging from Graphedit. Same as previously posted, connects to EVR. I will double-check to be sure I did not miss something.

Strange, FFDShow should be blocked... The preview is in TV server configuration?
