Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

I have not run into any issues that I know are caused by ffdshow yet. I have not done extensive testing but both HD and SD content currently plays back fine. I did run into an issue with 480p videos but that was related to ATI drivers. Currently I am using Cat 10.1 and the 401 svn of SAF 5. I will be updating MP, SAF and my drivers tonight and report any issues.

About time! They have had so many DXVA issue lately its pathetic. The nice 480p DXVA bug waited a few hours of my life for sure. Thanks for the update, I cant wait to give them a try.

Do you have any small 480p sample to test? I didnt noticed any problems yet.

I can confirm this Bug. In the ATI support Forum is a thread about that problem.AMD Game Forums - 10.2 Driver breaks 480p DXVA
The problem exists till Cat 10.2 I think.
I made a post in the german forum:
https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/grafikkarten-468/catalyst-10-3-a-80021/#post601862
There I posted some MediaInfos.

But your news to Cat 10.5 are really nice. :)

I will try the 10.4 previews tonight and see if it makes a difference. The bug was in both 10.2 and 10.3 drivers so hopefully its resolved in 10.4 or 10.5. If I run into issues I will try to extract a short segment from one of my problem files and post it if you want.

Nagarjuna:
Firstly you should diagnose source of problem = eliminate player problem. Just start your video in graphstudio installed by SAF. If your video plays fine here, problem lies in player, not decoder. FFDshow continue where MPC-HC decoder developement ends. Bugs was fixed, new features inplemented, etc. I can say FFDshow DXVA decoder is most advanced open source DXVA decoder ever created. For me is is working without any problem on my ATI 5450+Cat. 10.3, but i am using GB-PVR, not MePo.

Hey hoborg,

firstly you've done a great job :D

But i have some problems with the 5.0 version. Yesterday i did a clean install of Win7 and MP RC2 with the latest SAF. Everything worked flawlessly but some movies cannot be played now (Exactly: It starts, screen gets black, my receiver gets a notification about changing audio, 1-2 seconds later my receiver switches back to normal audio and then I'm at the point where i started the movie in mp). I want to stay with SAF5 because my tv switching times are so fast now, so hopefully you can find out my issue. My logs are attached and btw no error.log is created.

Edit: Forgot SAF Logs, attached now :D

Hi,

I had the same problem using W7 x64 + Mediaportal 1.1 RC2 + SAF 5 beta, and I solved it by installing Haalimedia splitter after SAF instalation. I'm not sure why, but it works fine for me...

NOTE: During haalimedia splitter installation I dissabled the TS support to be able to reproduce VC-1 videos.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    hello!

After the last RC1 and RC2 update I ve got an annoying problem; after installing SAF 5 (or 4 for that matter ) and a couple of opening and closing of the MP configuration interface, the options of choosing volume control (Master or Wave) are greyed out), making it impossible to control volume or mute once inside MP. Could it be related to the codespack in SAF, or is it just soem fuzz in my system...??
Logs attached (7z-files are not allowed to upload, apparently, had to convert it to a RAR-file)

    best regards, Tommeltott

I've got RC2 installed and SAF 5, and everything seems to be working ok, just have one annoyance... Before when I was using 1.1 Beta and SAF 4, I had the default zoom mode set for videos as stretch, and the videos took up the whole screen, edge to edge. Now with RC2 and SAF 5, even though stretch is set, the video still has the letterbox black bars top and bottom. I tried non-linear stretch and the bars got bigger.

Im not sure if this is an issue with one of the codecs from SAF (I am using it as per the screenshots on the frontpage, but using PDVD10 instead of PDVD9 for mpeg2) or an issue with media portal itself, but does anyone know how to stretch the videos to full screen again?

    Thanks

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Can someone explain the AC3 Encode setting. I have my audio output over SPDIF to my receiver. I use pass thorough for DD and DTS. When I setup SAF I always disable resampling and the AC3 encode and passthrough works fine. There are some files that I have that say have multi-channel AAC audio and those only output stereo.

Would the AC3 encoding help with files like this while not effecting formats that can be decoded by my receiver?

Also, so far so good with the latest SAF5 build and RC2. I have not yet updated to ATI 10.4 drivers but will report back when I do.

Re: SAF v4.10 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    I made some codec testings.
Nvidia GT 240, AMD Athon II X4, Supertalent SSD GX 64, Win 7 x64, MP RC2, SAF 5.0 12.4. unlocked, ffdshow audio codec

Here are my notes (sorry only notes):

    Sfi(news) PDVD10
dxva autoselect smooth, not perfect lines but no pulses
dxva bob smooth, not perfect lines but no pulses
    dxva weave stutter sometimes, pulses

    SFi(news) PDVD9
dxva force bob [best lines in EVR]
dxva force weave not perfect smooth, not nice lines
dxva autoselect not perfect smooth, not nice lines

SFi(news) ffdshow some framedrops at begin, disapeared. moving bar looks very good. line not very even, sometimes short. pulses/framedrop very rare.

    HDsuisse(movie) PDVD9
force bob + dxva -> visually perfect (even it reports as many framedrops as drawn), line has some very short pulses
force weave + sw -> slow + fd
force weave + dxva -> 1fd/sec with visual stuttering
autoselect + dxva -> visually perfect (even it reports as many framedrops as drawn), line has some very short pulses

HDsuisse ffdshow dxva video stuttering very hard or even freeze
after disabling post processing, even cpu was low when enabled. ( what causes this?) -> almost perfect, not always perfect line, but often. some less fd (7 out of 2000 not always) with pulses

    Conclusion:
    Best Playback with:
SD: fddshow (resize works also without problems) or PDVD9
HD: ffdshow DXVA with post processing disabled or PDVD9

but it seems every codec works quite "fine". i had some troubles first with ffdshow, dont know the reason, it just gone. i also made the discovery that background programs (in my case WindowsLive Messenger and Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) ) caused light stutters about every 4 sec. Wonder why on a quad with a SSD, there should be no reason for.

I have the impression that PDVD SD uses weave and HD bob. Is this correct? or a setting thing (auto uses last setting used first?) ffdshow seems to use bob with SD.

I also discovered crashes when switching from HD to SD channels, i dont know if this bug is SAF or MP related.
crash from zapping HD -> SD
    PDVD9 -> PVDV10
    ffdshow -> ffdshow
    not: PVDV9 -> ffdshow

Update: i still get framedrops which i cant reproduce constantly. Seems some Channels hit this problem more.
also i got some audio sync problems, this may caused from the ffdshow upscaling process. im investigating this 2 problems

Update 06.05: I now use PDVD10 for SD and HD. Runs smooth

The same I noticed too! Thanks for your great notes!

With PDVD10 I have stuttering in SD an lots of block-building!

    With PDVD9 all is great!

I have no subtitles at all in my mkv's. They're not loaded in MP. Working fine with avi+external.
I pressed no at install as i use RC2. Do i need to change anything?
