Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hello All,

Newbie here – so please be gentle. My setup is
PC (with ATI HD AH3650 video card) >>HDMI>.Denon Amp>>HDMI>>Pioneer TV.
I have mediaportal v1.0.4.23491 and unlocked SAF V5 (saf500svn100408a.exe). After reading many threads my head is spinning and would appreciate some help.

I am trying to play a MKV file with AVC video (L4.1) and DTS 6 channel audio. Video playback seems to be ok – but for the audio I am really confused. During the install I choose enable passthrough (and have added “ffdshow audio decoder” to video post processing) – but then even in graphstudio there is no audio – if I choose not to enable passthough – then I get just PCM stereo.

Any help on how to get DTS to the AV receiver via HDMI please?
Also I have currently set all the decoders to “ffdshow video decoder" or the dxva variant as applicable – with the unlocked version – what should these settings for video and dvd be please? ( I don’t have a TV card yet).

Many thanks

OK. First, (as I'm not sure on the specs of that card) as far as I know only the newer ATI (58xxx/59xxx) series have proper HDMI sound integrated into the video card with an on-board sound processor. Older HDMI cards (if they support HDMI out) have the ability to "pass-through" via an audio passthrough cable that feeds your audio from whatever card you have to the video card. This may be your case and you are not hooking up this connection. If you are assuming that by plugging in an HDMI cable, that the audio will simply "work" - will result in this issue.

Do some spec checking on your card. If it supports true HDMI with audio then there is another issue, if not that audio is not being generated in the video card and thus - needs a way to be added to the HDMI stream. A newer card like the ATI Radeon 5870 has integrated a nice audio solution to the video card and you do not need this "feeder" cable to pass audio to the video card for the video card to add to the HDMI signal going to the receiver.

Also, make sure in MePo config you are using "default output device" for sound, and in Windows control panel, you set the default device to the proper audio device.

Good Luck, hope this helps!

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

for some reason i cant play ripped dvd's with mediaportal, not with SAF4 and SAF5 also doesn't seem to do the trick... all other movies are working like a charm, can somebody help me out? have been looking for a solution all day now

os: Vista
mediaportal: 1.1 rc1
the dvd rips do work in MPC-HC

This is too vague. What happens? Do you get any video, ie: the root menu, etc?
:sorry: my bad

The screen freezes in the menu where i select the movie to play (background remains visible), without showing any video nor the rootmenu. It looks like Mediaportal is freezing, because it doesn't respond to any kind of input. (escape doesnt work and the navigation bar in the top doesn't appear). The only way to close mediaportal is by using taskmanager.

Many thanks for the quick reply JSorrentino – sorry I should have made it clear – yep my card supports audio over hdmi – I even tested it with SAFv4 (with some fiddling around I could get DTS when I played the file directly in MPC-HC ) but not in graphstudio or in mediaportal. – So I uninstalled V4 and though would give v5 a go to see if I could get to the bottom of it.

Make sure that after you install SAF5, you look in the FFDSHOW config that pops up and check the proper formats to pass through.

Also, Make sure to add the FFDSHOW audio decoder to post processing. ;-)

Good Luck.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi All.

updated to saf 5.00 last night to fiz the upscaling issue with avi / xvix files and has worked a treat... but now i have one problem.

when playing FLV files through online videos plugin some ( when i say some not all FLV streams ) the audio plays fine but video is stop / start and freezes. for instance apple trailers playing flv seem to work but yahoo music videos which also stream FLV stutters and freezes on video.

could this be because i have set FLV to lib in FFDshow video properties and its applying the same resize as avi / xvid files?

FYI all videos and FLV stream played fine in Saf 4.00

AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi

Just have a small question regarding latest SAF5...
I've got some anime series 1080p x264 in an mkv container. The openings and endings are in seprate mkv-files and I think the series use the ordered chapters feature. With the former SAF package (v4 beta22 I think) I was able to see the haali icon in the taskbar an configured haali to always open linked files. Now with the v5 of SAF I'm not able to do so, so if I watch my series, there's no opening or ending.
I tried to look through the settings of ffdshow since it's now used for x264 dxva but couldn't find anything. Am I blind or isn't this possible with mkv and latest SAF?

Hope one can understand what I'm looking for, didn't use my english very often...

Best regards and anyways, thanks for your package hoborg

oh yes it's the unlocked SAF version...

JSorrentino, got the problem sorted, but the post above didn't fix my problem, in mather of fact the problem wasn't even codec related, it was caused by a bug in UAC incombination with windows vista and external hdd's! If you have UAC disabled in vista, you get a dvd incompatible problems (dvd incompatible disc and decoder regions) and by re-enabling UAC, the problem gets fixed :)

thanks for your help mate
