Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

New ATi Catalyst 10.10:
Video accleration for WMV HD video content

* This release of AMD Catalyst provides video acceleration support for WMV HD (Microsoft video codec) under Windows 7
* Compatible with the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series of products (also works for my HD4000 card)
It works! I disabled wmv 9 stuff in ffdshow and now it uses the WMVideo decoder filter. MPC-HC does not indicate that it's using DXVA, but it IS using the videocard for playing.

So I think that it's better to disable wmv 9 for users with ATi card in the ffdshow config, so they have Hardware Acceleration and not the artifacts which we got with ffdshow

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

I encountered 2 problems on a Win XP SP3 installation:

    • Even though I had the ffdshow Video decoder selected in the Decoder Settings of Media Portal under Video Codecs for MPEG-2, recordings are still played with the Cyberlink Codec, which I selected for MPEG-2 under Video codecs. No matter what I set for MPEG-2 under Video Codecs, the Cyberlink codec is used every time. If I change the MPEG-2 codec for MPEG-2 under TV codecs, that one will also be used for recordings.

    • Whenever the Cyberlink Codec is used for decoding SD content, I only get 25 FPS. Is there something I can do to debug this?

This is a normal behavior. You can see the info text in the Codecs tab that TV-Codecs are used if recorded (.ts) video is played.

Try to turn on "Automatic Refresh rate changer" in MP configuration General. For me it works on all media (stored on hard disk).

    @bart0190:
    1)try to disable audio passthrough.
No idea why a lot of user have similar problem when audio passthrough.
Try to play your videos in Graphstudio.

2)DTS passtrough is disabled by default - go to START, SAF, FFDShow, configure audio, output and enable DTS

3)try to disable resize - can be related?
    Code:
-if you have problem with aspect ratio under MePo, go to START - SAF - FFDShow - Configure video - Resize & Aspect and check "No aspect ratio correction"
4)no idea, this is not related with SAF.

@ Hoborg, thanks for the quick reply.
    1) but then I won't have AC3 (DD) sound but just stereo, isn't it?
    2) if I turn on DTS passthrough video will not play. If I have AC3 (Dolby Digital) (and no DTS) passthrough turned on it works (but showing DD on my audio receiver).
    3) I disabled resize, but it still has for e.g. NTSC content black bars around the image (so not using full screen). Could it be Mediaportal related? However with SAF4.00 and MP 1.1.0 I didn't have this as I can remember.
    4) yes. :) (I found out that streamed video content is not covered by autom. refresh rate changer of MP)

Hmmm.. what would the refresh rate changer change? I didn't have this behavior with the Cyberlink codec from PDVD 8. For now I configured the ffdshow codec again for MPEG-2 in TV codecs. I didn't notice any audio video sync issues yet, maybe it works in this case.

    Hi All,

just a short question: Which SAF Version should i use? (4 Stable or 5 exp?). Which version is best for my HTPC (Win7, Surround via Optical cable, AMD X2 4400 CPU, Onboard 1250 Radeon).
I'm using the HTPC for TV (HD,LD), Movies (mostly mkv) and Music (MP3/Streams).

Currently i'v installed the SAF 5 but i've issues with asynchronous Sound in Non-HD TV (FFDShow audio decoder ist configured in the settings).

    I dont get this...
WMV HD (VC-1) DxVA decoding is supported long time by ATI.

If i am not wrong, NTSC usin 640*480@30 FPS.
If you play you file in graphstudio, do you have black borders here too? Can you sen me small video sample?

    Sorry, I overlooked it.
I will check it with graphstudio.

Maybe a general question to 1 and 2: could it be graphic-chip related? And do you think a graphic card (the one you suggested time ago to me (Sapphire Radeon HD 4550, 512MB GDDR3, VGA, DVI, HDMI, PCIe 2.0, lite retail)) could solve this?
The reason why I'm thinking that is that the video is late (maybe too simple thoughts :) ).

    I doubt about it.
If you want new GPU, look for Radeon 5450 (or new 6xxx with UVD 3.0) or nVidia 4xx (or 5xx).
