AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

If the old version is uninstalled and reinstalled the new, or is this an update?

And then I've got a question about the plugin from Sloty My cinema program. When playing a trailer depends MEPO. Since one needs the FLV codec believe is with you not here? Does not that make ffdshow? Or do I set one probably something different?

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    Hello Hoborg,

I just uninstalled shark007's codec pack on my machine, deleted all registry entries related to ffdshow and installed the unlocked last build of SAF 5.

I still have the problem with some files that used to play well not working anymore. I tried to split the file to give you an example, but once cut using mkvmerge, it plays just fine.

I could of course convert my files, but the problem is that I have many many files, and some randomly affected (I tried to play another file and it failed too, but cannot remember which one). To give you an idea, tvseries reports something like 4500 files, and any of these might be failing now...

Strange is, that the file plays fine in wmp, but not in mpc-hc nor in graphstudio. I only got sound.
Now, since my system is Windows 7 ultimate x64, my guess is that wmp is using the 64 bit built-in codecs from Microsoft, which the other 32 bit apps cannot use.

Since my install is fresh, I attach the graph screenshot and my install logs if that can help.
I'd like to attach the file, too, but it is too big (55 Mb) and since it's working once split, a smaller one would just be useless.
Or maybe do you have some place I can upload it for you to test?

Thanks in advance for your help, and continue the good work!

The problem is DMO decoder. By some reason this decoder is used instead of FFDshow. Too bad i am not able to reproduce it on my Win7 x64 machine with all my AVI samples.
I will need the sample - if i will be able to reproduce, i will be able to fix it (at last i hope).

    Hi Felix,
Did you try what I suggested to you on page 207? It worked perfectly for me and I can now read all my DivX like before.
Win7DSFilterTweaker do the trick, it allows you to tell your PC to stop using DMO decoder and use ffdshow instead.

    Hi Hoborg,
I don't understand why this problem happened suddenly. It was after a windows update so maybe it's related.

Can nobody help me ? The current logs stuck in the signature!

    Hello Hoborg,

    Thanks for the quick answer.
I'm still loking at a way to split my file, I don't know if this can help, but if I try to open it with virtualdub, I get an error message (see attachment)

I tried to change the fourCC values using the fourCC changer freeware, but only achieved to get the "Mpeg 43 decoder DMO" instead of the one before, but still no image - only sound.

If you have an ftp site I can upload the file to, I would be happy to do it...

    Thanks,
    Felix

SAF can disable DMO decoder by default, but i didnt want to use this method (can broke other software).
I will try define prefered decoder by CLSID, but i need video sample...

That is becouse you dont have VFW decoder.
Easist way is to install FFDshow and durning install enable VFW.
Then create sample in VirtualDub, test it if problem still reapear, then reinstall SAF.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    Hello Hoborg,

I tried to install ffdshow including VFW, I even turned it to Set all supported formats to lib... in codec settings, I still get the same error message from virtualdub...

I agree with you, I would prefer not to disable the MS DMO codecs if possible, as I don't know what the side effects can be....

What I really do not understand is why these files were working fine using SAF or shark007 codec packs, then stopped once shark removed and SAF reinstalled, but also do the same on my other machine with afresh clean Windows install and only SAF installed. On the machine where shark codecs have been installed, SAF was also the first and only installed package first with all files working... 2machines, same software, 2 behaviors...

I uploaded the faulty avi, you can grab it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/438687210/Samsam_-_1x38_-_L_ombre_qui_en_dit_trop.avi

Let me know if you need more info...

And really big :D for your help!

    felix_clerc:

    Thanks for sample.
    The problem is more complicated...
The sample doesn't work with "MPC - Avi Splitter" - black screen. But if i open it in VirtualDub, set direct stream audio/video copy then save it as AVI and it is OK now.
This mean your AVI have broken/not standard header.

I have WinXP here, i will try DMO decoder problem at home.

You can try to unregister "MPC - Avi Splitter" in graphstudio (can broke other AVIs).
I think the best solution is AVI to MVK conversion in MKV Merge...

I agree too that i would ideally not disable the MS DMO codecs. So I will probably re-enable them as soon as the problem is fixed with SAF. I'm not an expert but I understand that « Mpeg4s Décodeur DMO » and « Mpeg43 Décodeur DMO » are used to decode some video formats but also to create video thumbnails... For the "MP3 Décoder DMO", there is apparently no side effects. It's now 2 weeks that I have disabled them and no problems to report with my PC dedicated to MePo.
