Just to clear up my confusion - does the new VC-1 support mean that I can watch blueray content without needing to have an on-the-fly decryptor like Any-DVD HD? Or have I misunderstood what VC-1 support is?

    Thanks

VC-1 is like h.264 codec used by BlueRays. It have nothing to do with AnyDVD.

u need anydvd hd to break about 7 layers of copy protection...including allowing something like MP (an unlicenced blu ray player) to play blu ray discs

otherwise u need a licenced player like powerdvd 10 or arcsoft, developed by companies who indeed have purchased licences to sell their software players that support playback of blu ray discs

Hoborg...u need a blu ray player and an amp already!! lol

    OK,

I use PDVD, so I can play Bluerays with that, it was just that there seemed to be a lot of excitement about VC-1 so I thought it might have been to do with the basic ability to play BR discs.

    Cheers

The primary problem with VC-1 is missing open source decoder for interlaced VC-1 - simply nobody wrote it yet.

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    oh god!
    it works!
    CONFIRMED!
    thankyou codec gods!

i dont have bd handler installed right now but the separate .M2TS files work in MP now for Inception (which uses VC-1i i presume) which used to only give me half framerate before i installed this version of SAF5 (saftest.exe on hoborgs link in the first page of this thread)

important to have ffdshow codec version 3751 !
also in the ffdshow DXVA shortcut - check H264 and uncheck VC1

also make sure u reg MpaDecFilter.ax in the MP directory again (double click it or type regsvr32 MpaDecFilter.ax) or else MPA - MPC audio decoder wont show in the codec list - and inside the MP setup config app u need to select SPDIF for ac3 and dts if u use spdif

the mpegsplitter.ax (gabest splitter) also needs to be registered

i use CoreAVC2.0 for my h264 video decoder(and thats what selected inside MP) as i get better performance with that rather than ffdshow DXVA on my nvidia 8600GT graphics card

if a VC-1i movie is playing instead it bounces back to the next possible video filter codec in merit (should just work without any changes) the regular ffdshow(non-DXVA) will kick in - WOOT!

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

    Hi

Is there any way to use a different decoder for SD h.264 media? I've found that the Cyberlink decoder works perfectly for all DXVA compliant HD media I have but has major issues with my archive of SD recorded tv (archived to h264 using handbrake). While ffdshow's DXVA decoder plays the SD media perfectly but is unable to play some (3 or 4) of my HD movies.

The perfect set up for me would be to have Cyberlink decode the HD media and ffdshow decode the SD media.

    Is this possible?

    P.S
    -I'm using unlocked SAF
-My cpu won't handle 1080p but I have an ATI GPU which does DXVA

It depends about file extensions *.TS will be played using PDVD, rest (MKV,M2TS,...) will use FFDshow DxVA if your GPU support it.

I've updated my ATI drivers just to be sure. I use PDVD for MKVs etc as I've found it plays more files with DXVA (For some reason ffdshow doesn't work or has trouble with some). I've archived a lot of kids shows over the years as mp4 (h264) using Handbrake. And all of them have major artifacts when played using the PDVD decoder, but work fine with ffdshow.

Since most of my movies are also kids movies, it's a pain to keep switching decoders when the kids want to watch a tv show after watching a movie (or the other way around). I gather there is/was an option in MPC-HC to not use DXVA for SD content. Would it be possible for an option like that in SAF?
