Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

I use PDVD11 for LiveTV (SD only) as recommended. I seem to recall there's issues with using ffdshow for this, and indeed I just tried and the first attempt I only got sound and a black screen, and when I got a picture on the next try, it was completely out of sync.

Anyway, the reason I was experimenting is that I'm concerned that the PDVD11 codec might not output in the right colorspace to match my calibrated TV. ffdshow has a lot of colorspace settings, and in fact I noticed that there's a couple of presets already setup in it for MPEG-2 SD and MPEG-2 HD. Both have the tag (LiveTV), so do some people actually use it for LiveTV successfully. Did you create those presets Hoborg?

If I can't use PDVD11 or ffdshow to get LiveTV outputting in the right colorspace, is there something else that will work and do this?

Yes, i setup colorspaces for FFDshow.
Both PDVD and FFDshow should output in NV12.

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

Thanks hoborg.

I read that CCC's deinterlacing doesn't work with RGB output, so it's probably good if PDVD11's codec uses NV12 as I use it for SDTV, which I guess needs deinterlacing.

How does ffdshow decide which colorspace to use though, as even with your presets I see you've got several ticked, including RGB32 for Default and MPEG-2 HD, but not for MPEG2-SD.

Does ffdshow need to be forced to only use NV12, to match PDVD11, so that the display can be calibrated to properly show all material?

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

Hoborg,

Where can I get unlocked version of SAF 6? Also, will utilizing powerdvd 11 allow me to hardware accelerate vc1 files through MediaPortal?

Sorry for the noobish questions. I've been using ffdshow/coreavc for years and my recent win7 build has been giving me issues with playing vc1 .m2ts files. I'm having issues playing them through ffdshow (latest builds).

Thanks.

Hi.
there is no need to configure anything, all is preset.

Read PM.
If you have problem to play VC-1 (you should not with SAF6 if you have powerfull CPU), disable VC-1 in FFDshow. VC-1 playback will fall back to PDVD11 decoder.

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

Is there some issue with the latest ATI Catalysts? I have been having intermittent stutter/frame drop on my HTPC since I formatted it, only difference with the previous install was newer ATI Catalysts (11.4, now on 11.5 which hasn't resolved the issue).

Yes, I got the same issues after upgrading to Catalyst 11.5. Using Shift + 1 it showed that the actual FPS were about 17 at 50 fps material. You already know the Catalyst 11.5b Hotfix? Download

I also found out that the stuttering disappeared after changing the settings in Gaming Section to:
AA & AF: Let App decide
VSync: Always On

Maybe the AA & AF settings interfere with the Video Settings of Catalyst. But don't know if it's really the cure.

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

SAF 6.00 SVN20110531 out
- MPC-HC filter/player updated to rev. 1.5.2.3158
- FFDShow updated to rev.3866
- LAVF updated to .28
- PDVD decoder updated to 1.0.0.2913 (604.zip) - *unlocked* SAF only

Please, test new PDVD decoder revision in LiveTV
There is a problem playing h.264 *.ts recordings outside MePo - LAVF doesn't like FFDshow DXVA decoder and crash the player. Disabling DXVA in ffdshow dxva decoder or use PDVD decoder will fix that issue.

Yes, of course. Just disable VC-1 decoding in FFDshow, playback should fall back to PDVD11. But if you want subtitles, you need to use MePo subtitle engine.
