Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

just being curious:
does SAF6 have the same functionality with ATI / Intel graphics as with NVidia?

Wrong question.
You should ask:
Does ATI / Intel graphics have the same functionality as NVidia?

No - it is valid question in a that sence that not all codecs support all HW.

i disagree, the question should be:

"do nvidia and intel have the same video capabilites of ATI ?"

and the answer is that : NO

    ATI >> NVIDIA >>INTEL

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

when I saw that there is SAF 6.0 I googled for LAV and found this page:
LAV CUVID Decoder - High Quality Hardware decoding for NVIDIA - Doom9's Forum
    (second post)

    I have Intel graphics.
So I checked on the first post in this thread if there are any comments about that a NVidia card is mandatory for SAF 6.0 full functionality. I could not not find any comments so I kindly ask for it...

    Gets completely off topic :)

In some past thread I have already stated few facts that make those comparisions pretty useless - one is that postprocessing is usually ruining the picture (it can help in cases when you have already really bad source material - for Bluray content it is usually just pointless).

There are also other things like driver quality to be considered (and codec compatibility). ATI is behind on those two currently (year ago they were in par with Nvidia on the driver quality).

But, please open a new thread to discuss (with biased opinions like all have when it comes to ATI/Nvidia/Intel :)). This thread is no place for such discussion. We should collect all the current facts to some one place in wiki (and keep it up to date) to reduce the times when the same issue pops up in the random video related threads.

Something to collect to the wiki (or forum thread) - this is not a small task by any means:

    • Driver versions - compatibility issues / bugs / features / issues with MP
    • Driver stability on different configurations
    • HW generations - compatibility issues / bugs / features / HW acceleration support per format / issues with MP
    • Support by codecs
    • Quality test results (with possibility to exclude the postprocessing all together - since this depends on the users need / material used)

but in any case, please we need to keep this thread clean from this - it is quite big without such discussion already :)

SAF doesnt use that Nvidia only video decoder (not even for Nvidia :)).

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

    Thanks,

I thought that is the same thing.
I liked SAF 4 with WinXP a lot. Due to codec minimalism I try to avoid codec pacs but for flv, mkv, dolby digital,... the damn MS DTV codec of Win7 just won't do it!
I think the biggest con of MP is that users have to deal with codecs so much.
It would be great having preconfigured open source codecs coming with MP that simply work ;)

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

LAV have big future. It already dominated two of three segmets - media splitting and audio decoding. Last one - video decoding will follow soon.
It is unbelievable how much nevcairiel already did and how fast it was created. And he doing that just for fun.

He have plan to merge LAV CUVID decoder with LAV video decoder, add DXVA2 support, BluRay menus, etc...

    This man is genius...
